General Job DescriptionHouston law firm is seeking a Trusts, Estates, & Guardianship Litigation paralegal with a minimum of 3-5 years of current relevant experience in a law firm environment. This position will report to the direct supervising Shareholders and located in Houston, TX. Duties and Responsibilities
- Draft motions, petitions, discovery requests, correspondence to clients and other legal documents
- Prepare for and attend depositions, hearings, mediations, trials and arbitrations
- Prepare trial subpoenas, deposition notices, and all relevant releases for ordering records
- Perform legal research using Accurint, Westlaw & Lexis/Nexis
- Prepare notebooks and exhibits for hearing, depositions, trials, & arbitrations
- Prepare deposition summaries and case summaries for attorney use
- Coordinate and maintain large volumes of paper and electronic documents in an orderly manner
- Document collection from clients and witnesses
- Document subpoenas to third parties
- Assist in deposition preparation, including exhibit identification and organization
- Summarize cases and prepare reports for attorneys
- Create timeline of events for each case as directed by supervising attorneys
- Prepare and organize document production and exhibits using Ipro and OnCue
- Research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources
- Monitor deadlines in connection with numerous estates
- Coordinate logistics and assist attorneys during client meetings and document execution
- Prepare estate related documents for attorney review such as inventories and notices to beneficiaries
- Bachelors degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred
- Paralegal certificate preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a law firm environment
- Experience with filings in probate courts in Harris and surrounding counties
- Highly proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent grammar and proofreading skills
- Exceptional organizational skills, works according to priorities and ahead of deadlines
- Detail oriented with strong work ethic and ability to multi-task
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast pace environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Styles
- Ability to work occasional overtime and weekends
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
