Responsibilities:PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates and performs a variety of case finding methods to identify reportable cases for abstracting purposes across all Northside facilities, including but limited to electronic medical record, radiation therapy transcription, and pathology report review.
- Adheres to case finding reportability rules in accordance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies, including but not limited to SEER, Georgia Center for Cancer Statistics and American College of Surgeons.
- Adheres to case finding reportability guidelines of the Cancer Committee and other oncology program committees as needed.
- Identifies all relevant encounters pertaining to each patient and organizes the data, across all facilities, and enters data into in the corresponding registries.
- Performs quality control of casefinding, utilizing but not limited to audit reports.
- Maintains quality and productivity standards as determined by department.
- Collects diagnostic and treatment information from physician offices and outside facilities via HIPAA compliant processes. Conducts phone calls and generates letters to physicians and outside facilities as needed. Provides abstractors with information necessary to complete the abstract. Updates patient information when appropriate.
- Processes data requests from outside hospital registries in accordance with HIPAA. Maintains HIPAA log on all data released to outside facilities and registries
- Coordinates with various departments to ensure needed conference materials and equipment are available for each meeting.
- Performs follow-up on a regular basis, including but not limited to date of last contact, disease status, recurrence date, recurrence type, and subsequent treatment.
- Maintains follow-up rates at or above the requirements set by accrediting agencies.
- Obtains required education on an annual basis, adhering to accrediting agency requirements, and provides necessary documentation in a timely manner.
- Participates in Commission on Cancer Special Studies as needed.
- Performs other clerical functions as needed and provides on-site support as indicated by supervisor.
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.
REQUIRED
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years’ experience as Health Information Management Abstractor or Health Data Analyst or related field or Associates Degree in Health Related field.
- National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) accredited degree or certification program in Cancer Registry Management must be completed within two (2) years of hire date
- Experience using computer data base systems.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
PREFERRED
- Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel.
- S. degree in Health Sciences, Medical Records Administration, or related discipline.
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and/or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) accredited degree or certificate in Cancer Registry Management
