About the Job
Security Engineer
London
Competitive salary + benefits
We have an exciting opportunity for a Security Engineer to join our rapidly growing security engineering team based in our London office.
The Hoare Lea security engineering team includes chartered engineers and professionally registered security professionals with an incredible wealth of experience across many industry sectors. We work on many prestigious built environment projects, focused on delivering security strategies and technical designs aligned to the RIBA plan of works to support the aspirations of our clients.
About us
Hoare Lea is an award-winning engineering consultancy with a creative team of engineers, designers, and technical specialists. We provide innovative solutions to complex engineering and design challenges for buildings.
Irrespective of the scale or complexity of a project, we provide a full range of MEP, environmental and sustainability services, bringing buildings to life and ensuring that they perform in operation as well as they look.
Today’s world requires security to be considered an intrinsic part of development and not an afterthought or add-on. We have the ability to design buildings so they’re as secure as possible right from concept stage.
We view our work as a service rather than a product; supporting a building throughout its entire lifecycle and developing as technology and user expectations evolve.
We are a team of accredited experts, including Principal Members of the Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (RSES) and Members of the Security Institute. In an area where strong opinions are rife, we focus on objective, scientific, and evidence-based solutions.
Why work for us?
You’ll collaborate with the industry’s best, working in the UK’s largest MEP firm with a range of specialist teams.
You’ll be part of progressive and exciting projects and be able to experience innovative schemes across all sectors.
You’ll advance your career, your way, thanks to our structured Career Paths framework

- Developing physical and electronic security solutions aligned to approved security strategies. This will include the production of technical specifications, engineering drawings, and stage-specific reports.
- Set up and manage job/project administrative systems, including planning and monitoring job resourcing/expenditure (adjusting these as necessary)
- Liaising with wider design teams to coordinate security requirements of projects.
- Attending client meetings as part of our delivery teams.
- Proactively participating as part of the Hoare Lea security engineering team in developing approaches to project delivery to support continued team growth.
Hoare Lea has a strong culture of staff development and training, and we will actively support and encourage you to develop professionally.

- A good working knowledge of engineering drawing and modelling tools such as CAD and REVIT.
- An understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work.
- Previous experience in a role within the built environment would be preferable (eg previous employment, work placement or work experience).
- A technical understanding of electronic security systems would be preferable.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment with tight deadlines.
