About the Job
Reports to the Imaging Supervisor, performs ultrasound procedures and other related functions in the daily operation of the Radiology Department. The technologist is under the direction of the department supervisor, physicians and administrator and ensures quality patient care is provided.

Performs all ultrasound examinations according to department protocols, policies and procedures while ensuring appropriate and quality care by:
- Obtaining pertinent clinical history for the reading radiologist, communicating with referring physicians and other healthcare personnel and providing phone reports, when indicated.
- Explaining and including the patient in their procedure.
- Preparing images on PACS.
- Accurately entering orders and completing associated worksheets or reporting template for the reading radiologist.
- Applying the appropriate charges.
Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department:
- Maintains ARDMS/ARRT(S) certification
- Orients new staff and students to work areas upon request.
- Accurately badges daily clocking-ins, PTO, holidays and call (or timely completion of add-clocking in Active Staffer).
- Cleans and maintains equipment, reporting any equipment malfunctions to the Coordinator.
- Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through graduation from an approved ultrasound program (or education and clinical experience sufficient to obtain required ultrasound credentials). Must be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, Sonography (ARRT) (S) or registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Previous experience as a staff technologist preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Requires anatomy knowledge and skills necessary to position patients properly and to perform all examinations.
- Operating knowledge of machines/equipment and work aides used by position: Ultrasound machine, PACS, patient gurneys, wheelchairs, personal computer, fax and copy machine.
- Demonstrates scientific, technical and computer abilities needed to master the principal protocols to obtain ultrasound images.
- Demonstrates well developed communication skills to understand written and verbal instructions.
- Seek guidance and remain knowledgeable of, and comply with, all applicable federal and state laws as well as regulations and hospital policies that apply to assigned duties.
- Comply with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct. Comply with federal and hospital requirements in the areas of protected health information and patient privacy.
- Complete Healthstream Training Modules annually as assigned.
- Attendance at one in-service each year to review hospital policies and procedures is mandatory or view staff orientation presentation on the intranet and turn in quiz to Human Resources.
Working Conditions
- Works in a patient care environment requiring physical exertion and potential exposure to radiation hazard. May come into direct contact with blood, tissue, body fluids and other biohazards.
- Must be able to take call and arrive at Community Hospital of Bremen within 60 minutes of being called in.
Physical Demands
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs and position patients. Self-motivation skills, ability to work without constant supervision. Must be compatible with patients, co-workers, supervisory personnel and physicians at all times and have concern for patients and employee safety procedures.
