POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Ultrasound Manager, Ultrasound Supervisor and Lead Ultrasound Technologist, the Ultrasound Technologist provides skill and initiative to the department's mission through interactions with staff, manager and others as necessary. The ultrasound technologist's primary duties are to generate diagnostic sonographic images for the radiologists, while also implementing policy and procedures as determined necessary through the manager, supervisor and lead technologist.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Ultrasound Manager, Ultrasound Supervisor and Lead Ultrasound Technologist, the Ultrasound Technologist provides skill and initiative to the department's mission through interactions with staff, manager and others as necessary. The ultrasound technologist's primary duties are to generate diagnostic sonographic images for the radiologists, while also implementing policy and procedures as determined necessary through the manager, supervisor and lead technologist.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs a wide variety of exams as required and necessary for proper departmental workflow. Assists physicians during sterile invasive procedures, i.e. biopsies, aspirations, thoracenteses, intraoperative etc. Satisfies operational requirements to include covering the department as determined necessary through either the Manager, Supervisor or Lead technologist.
- Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Completes exams in a timely fashion while providing quality scans. Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient's ability to understand
- Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety of the patient during the sonographic exam.
- Follows all departmental established policies and procedures as required.
- Sets up equipment as necessary and uses proper patient positioning and technique to ensure patient comfort and safety, and to prevent compromised data acquisition and musculoskeletal injury to the sonographer.
- Performs duties as required in all areas of the department to include all campuses and either within Ultrasound or outside when appropriate for the hospital mission as determined by either the Manager or Lead technologist. Work schedules as required through regularly scheduled hours or overtime as required for department needs.
- Performs appropriate studies as determined through policy and procedure. Follows requisition in terms of providing proper study for patients. Ensures that exams requested match patient condition and/or history and calls or asks proper persons for more information as necessary to perform the proper study. Identify and document any limitations to the sonographic exam.
- Provides service and care to patients of all ages.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- BLS/CPR certification
- Completion of two year or four year post-high school training in an approved school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- Knowledge of the principles and procedures of diagnostic medical sonography and the operation and maintenance of the ultrasound equipment
- Registered through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS, AB or OB or RVT) at time of hire is required
- 1-2 years of experience is preferred
