About the Job
We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Ultrasound Technologist to perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures. The technologist will operate ultrasound equipment to capture images of various parts of the body, provide direct patient care, and collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnostic information. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, experience in a healthcare setting, and a commitment to patient safety and comfort.
Responsibilities:
Ultrasound Procedures:
Perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to physician orders and established protocols.
Operate ultrasound equipment to capture images of soft tissues, organs, and blood flow to assist in the diagnosis of medical conditions.
Adjust machine settings for optimal imaging, ensuring proper positioning and scanning angles.
Assist in invasive ultrasound-guided procedures as required by the physician (e.g., biopsies, aspirations).
Patient Care and Safety:
Explain ultrasound procedures to patients, addressing their concerns, and ensuring they are comfortable and informed throughout the exam.
Position patients accurately and comfortably on the ultrasound table, using pillows and supports when necessary.
Monitor patients during procedures and ensure their safety and well-being at all times.
Follow proper infection control protocols, including cleaning and sterilizing equipment and exam rooms after each use.
Collaboration and Reporting:
Work closely with radiologists and other medical professionals to ensure accurate image interpretation.
Review ultrasound images for quality and completeness before submitting them for physician interpretation.
Document patient history and exam results accurately in the medical records system.
Communicate significant findings or concerns to the appropriate medical staff in a timely manner.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
Operate, calibrate, and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring it functions optimally and produces high-quality images.
Troubleshoot any technical issues and arrange for repairs or maintenance as needed.
Keep up-to-date with new ultrasound technologies and participate in continuing education to maintain proficiency.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
Adhere to all applicable regulations, including those set by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and The Joint Commission.
Participate in quality control and quality assurance programs to maintain high standards of imaging and patient care.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
Associate's or bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.
ARDMS certification in Abdomen, OB/GYN, or Vascular Technology.
State licensure, if applicable.
1-3+ years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist in a clinical or hospital setting.
Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and sonographic imaging techniques.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide compassionate patient care.
