Basic Functions
A Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (Ultrasound Tech) is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional who provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating the results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is also responsible for the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The Sonographer always maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is also responsible for the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The Sonographer always maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
In this role you will:
- Operate ultrasonic diagnostic equipment to examine various parts of the body such as the pelvis, lower and upper abdomen (liver, gallbladder, pancreas, aorta, etc.), retroperitoneal area (kidneys, adrenals), etc.
- Perform a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative.
- Assume responsibility for designated areas or procedures, as required.
- Transfer and position, provide immobilization devices, as required, to produce diagnostic ultrasound imaging.
- Select proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
- Select and operate equipment as directed.
- Protect in accordance with prescribed safety standards (where applicable).
- Perform QA to images and facilitate the delivery of the images to the PACS System for dictation.
- Input sonographic Findings into the procedure section of the EMR office visit note for provider dictation and interpretation.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Graduation from an accredited school of Ultrasonography.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
- RDMS (AB) (Required) and RVT (Preferred).
- Additional registries may be required to obtain after hire.
- If certification is not held at the time of hire, the employee has 1 year from time of hire to complete certification.
- Sonographers must comply with the ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI requirements for continuing education appropriate to their practices.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to accept direction and work within a team concept.
- Being cordial to patients and fellow staff members.
- Bi-lingual, English/Spanish a plus.
- Proficient in Word/Excel.
- Monday – Friday shifts with flexible work hours.
- Must be able to cover other Progressive Urology Division locations for scheduled PTO & call outs
- Must have reliable transportation
