Job Description:We are seeking an Underwriter II – Custom Property for our Seneca team.
The opportunity will be domiciled in our Chicago, IL office, a hybrid role that will require weekly office presence.
The selected candidate will underwrite and market Seneca products throughout the Midwest region. Focus is on E&S Property risks.
Responsibilities:
- Handling of new and renewal accounts that generate from $10,000 to $250,000 annual premium.
- Working with wholesale brokers in the production, underwriting, pricing, and servicing of accounts within the assigned territory.
- Assist in developing annual business plan and analyze and evaluate results for assigned producers.
- Keep abreast of market trends, competition philosophy, products and distributions systems.
- Review Modeling if appropriate to determine if there have been any changes in risk cat load.
- Review and evaluate profit, volume, and service results for assigned producers.
- Assist in training underwriters, trainees, underwriting assistants and clerks in technical aspects of job.
Requirements:
- 5 - 10 years of underwriting experience with strong expertise in the property lines.
- Industries served include residential real estate, habitational real estate including apartments, condos, motels, hotels, student housing, vacant property, manufacturing and restaurants.
- Solid working relationship with wholesale brokers.
- Excellent technical and marketing skills required.
- Knowledge of market and regulatory environment.
- Strong communication, negotiation, customer service, relationship, and organizational skills are required.
- College degree or equivalent is preferred, and ARM, CPCU and MBA designations are a plus.
- Travel is approximately 30%.
- Will abide by branch policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with Seneca’s risk control procedures.

Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $86,800 to a maximum of $127,300. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
