About the Job
We are a leading mortgage company with a mission of promoting homeownership and serving underserved communities, is seeking an Underwriting Manager to join our team. As Underwriting Manager, you will play a critical role in driving the success of our company and helping us achieve our ambitious goals. This is a hybrid position that will require some time in our Los Angeles office.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the underwriting department, ensuring the effective and efficient underwriting of loan applications.
- Develop and maintain underwriting policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with other departments, including sales, capital markets and operations, to ensure that loan applications are processed promptly and efficiently and that the development and implementation of loan products is effectively communicated to brokers and sales teams
- Monitor and analyze underwriting trends and metrics to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations to the executive team.
- Hire, train, and mentor underwriting staff, providing ongoing coaching and feedback to help team members grow and develop their skills
- Establish and maintain relationships with third-party providers, including appraisers and title companies.
- Provide guidance and support to the executive team on underwriting-related matters, including product development and pricing strategies
- Ensure the underwriting team provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
- Develop and maintain product matrices
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as finance or business
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, with at least 3 years of experience in a leadership role
- Strong knowledge of underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements, including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guidelines
- FHA DE and VA LAPP/SAR required
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve issues quickly and effectively
- Strong leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members to achieve their best
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Proficiency in Google Suite
- Experience with Lodasoft a plus
- Must live within 1 hour driving distance of Los Angeles
