AIG is seeking an Underwriting Team Lead to lead its WorldRisk product.  WorldRisk is an industry leader in providing international insurance solutions to middle market and small commercial customers in the US.  AIG’s strong foundation as the market leader in this area has evolved through its long-term commitment to the multinational marketplace, investment in technology, commitment to industry knowledge sharing, underwriting creativity and emphasis on data and analytics.  AIG prides itself as staying ahead of the curve and is looking for forward thinking and inventive leaders to navigate a constantly changing global, economic and geopolitical landscape.  Area of focus will be AIG’s international package offering (also known as WorldRisk.)  In this role, you will be responsible for leading an underwriting team in all areas of the business.  This includes soliciting new business opportunities and partnering with other AIG product line leaders. This role includes constant interaction with top brokers.  AIG’s client base consists of Fortune 2000 companies as well as any customer seeking solutions for international casualty exposures.  Through this role, managers gain access to a highly evolving and dynamic atmosphere that involves exposure to major influencers in the insurance and international business fields.

How you will create an impact

• You will be responsible formanagement, development and training of the underwriting staff and increased responsibility for the business results of the unit. This role will be responsible for managing a team of underwriters.
• You will be responsible for assessing the desirability of risk to help drive the profitable growth of Foreign Casualty. This includes ability to exercise judgment, negotiate and make sound business decisions effectively based on increased level of authority. 
• Present alternative solutions for more difficult situations and makes real-time decisions in a fast-paced environment characterized by ambiguity and change. 
• Support consistent underwriting best practices, in accordance with underwriting guidelines, to ensure rating, pricing, profitability, and structuring adequacy. 
• Responsible for assigning and managing the work of a team of underwriters. 
• Assist underwriters in executing on strategic initiatives.  Provide support and develop solutions to their issues/concerns (system, guidelines, training, reports, new project request, product amendments).   
• Assist underwriters in collaborating with Distribution, Territory Managers, and other line(s) of business underwriters to target desirable accounts and cross selling opportunities from brokers.  
• Utilize various daily reports and constant monitoring of adherence to underwriting requirements and guidelines to oversee assigned book of business. 
• Keep abreast of developments in assigned territories to determine their effect on current accounts and potential new business opportunities. 
• Develop strong, long-term relationships with brokers and clients to profitably grow a book of business. 
• Identify the need for and manage special underwriting projects as needed. 
• Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients. 

What you’ll need to succeed

• 5+ years of Casualty or Middle Market Package Underwriting, Management, Commercial Insurance Company, Agency, and/or Brokerage experience. 
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships.  
• Advanced working knowledge of the Property, Casualty lines or preferable ancillary lines of business (i.e. Environmental A&H, K&R) including product features, forms, regulatory environments, and risks. 
• Demonstrated sales, marketing, and relationship building experience. 
• Highly motivated, collaborative and results oriented. 
• Superb verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work in dynamic environment, adapt to changing requirements and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions.
• Ability to adapt quickly in an evolving market
• Enjoys a challenge with a "can-do" attitude 
• Customer and Sales orientated behaviors; motivated, tenacious, technically skilled, proactive and accountable
