About the Job
Reports to the Director. Performs receptionist and general clerical duties relating to the general functioning of the patient care unit. Assists with basic patient care activities in support of other associates. Specific tasks to be performed are determined based upon assignment and may include some or all of the duties listed below.

- Clerical/Supply Inventory/Unit Maintenance.
- Monitors and orders replacement of stock supplies and materials.
- Keeps the department areas neat and orderly.
- Manages telephone calls.
Patient Care Delivery:
- Obtains and documents height, weight, intake and output, vital signs, and reports any abnormal findings in a timely manner.
- Picks up and delivers blood products per policy.
- Appropriately collects and delivers specimens.
- Completes purposeful hourly rounding.
- Assists with answering call lights.
- Delivers 1:1 staffing care when requested.
- Provides safe patient environment.
- Provides patient mobility, ambulation, positioning, and transportation.
- Assures the patient receives the correct diet and assists with feeding as needed.
- Thoroughly documents all patient care provided.
Resource Driven Practice:
- Seek education and supervision as necessary.
- Participates in councils, committees, and process improvement activities.
- Has regular and prompt attendance.
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience:
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Must be a minimum of 17 years of age. Previous patient care experience preferred. A Nurse Assistant certification is preferred. Must obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/CPR) within 3 months of hire and maintain certification.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Must be able to prioritize duties to meet deadlines for service.
- Legible handwriting, accuracy and organization skills to efficiently prepare medical record forms, clinic visits and pull charts for review.
- Good working relationships with others.
- Skilled in EPF, PHS and Microsoft office products preferred.
- Supportive and caring communication skills with clients. (Good communication skills both verbal and written).
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Requires an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purpose, when necessary, due to the extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions.
- Strong team player.
- Communicates clearly and promptly with supervising nurse in order to give prompt care and experience for patients and families.
Working Conditions:
- Able to deal with significant amount of stress, frequent interruptions.
- Possible eye strain from CRT terminal.
Physical Demands:
- Endure long periods of sitting at a desk and adapting to surrounding situation.
- Moderate standing, walking and stooping including filing and restocking.
- Lift boxes up to 20 pounds in weight.
- Proper use of body mechanics to prevent injury.
- Demonstration of exercises requires excellent physical fitness and stamina.
