Overview:The Unit Secretary / Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the Patient Care Unit plays a vital role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. This dual-role position combines administrative support with direct patient care under the supervision of the healthcare team. This position involves assisting patients recovering from cardiac events, such as heart attacks, surgeries, and other cardiovascular issues.
Responsibilities:Administrative Duties:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the nursing station, answering calls and directing inquiries to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain accurate patient records, including admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Prepare and manage patient charts, ensuring all information is up-to-date and in compliance with healthcare standards.
- Order and maintain unit supplies, inventory, and materials as needed.
- Assist with scheduling, coordination, and communication for patient tests, treatments, and consultations.
Patient Care Duties (CNA):
- Provide daily care for patients, such as assisting with personal hygiene, mobility, and meals.
- Take and record vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and other relevant measurements.
- Monitor patients’ symptoms and status, immediately reporting any changes or concerns to the nursing staff.
- Assist patients in safely ambulating and positioning to prevent complications.
- Ensure that patient rooms are clean, organized, and equipped with necessary supplies.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with nurses, physicians, and other team members to support patient care and smooth unit operations.
- Assist with emergency response procedures, following protocols for cardiac-related emergencies.
- Contribute to a supportive and respectful work environment.
- Monitoring telemetry patients from central monitoring station work experience related to nursing or medical records is desirable.
- Must have completed Medical Terminology course.
- Ability to maintain professional manner with visitors, hospital staff, and physicians.
- Ability to work under pressure and to organize and complete multiple tasks in a limited time.

- Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in DE (preferred)
- BLS – Basic Life Saving Certification
- High school diploma preferred OR current high school student with CNA license (work schedule in compliance with the State of Delaware Department of Labor Regulations)
