Job Overview:
The Unit Secretary assists the Director of Patient Care and the staff nurses by performing diversified secretarial duties. These duties include but are not limited to: filing, document storage and retrieval, reception, typing, routine record keeping, maintain supplies and equipment, maintaining monthly statistics.
Qualifications:
Required:
+ High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:
+ Computer Skills (ie: Word, Excel, Windows)
+ Knowledge of medical terminology
+ Previous unit secretary or medical office experience
+ Excellent communication skills
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Certifications and Licenses Required:
+ N/A
Scheduling Requirements:
+ Evening shift, 3:00pm - 11:30pm
+ Full Time, 40 hours per week
+ Every other weekend required (When working weekend shift, off Friday before and Monday after)
+ Holiday rotation
Essential Functions:
+ Interacts with patients and families to help facilitate high quality patient care
+ Communicates and collaborates with hospital staff, physicians, and medical offices to develop and maintain procedural schedules
+ Answers phones promptly and relays information to appropriate person
+ Assembles and disassembles designated charts appropriately
+ Identifies and reports potential and actual patient safety issues
+ Keeps medical records complete and in order
+ Maintains unit supplies at appropriate par levels
+ Maintains communication with the Bed Controller and cooperates with room assignments
+ Performs required clerical work relating to the admission, transfer and discharge
+ Reviews charts for needed forms. Attaches all diagnostic reports to chart.
