Job Description
Job Duties:
30% - Conducting daily experiments to identify cellular and molecular mechanisms using animal and cellular models of disease. Develop primary cell culture models from human and mouse tissues to evaluate effects of inflammatory stimuli on cellular gene expression, proliferation, and signaling pathways. Expertise in cell biology, sterile cell culture, assay development, qPCR, western blot, enzyme activity assays, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy is required. Additional biochemical, molecular, and cellular biology techniques such as working with co-cultures or 3D cultures and single-cell RNA sequencing are a plus.
30% - Performing animal behavioral and functional assessments to determine physiological impacts of disease and novel therapies. While expertise in murine behavioral echocardiography, and telemetry are not required, the candidate must be willing to acquire these skills.
15% - Supervise and assist lab trainees including graduate students, rotation students, and junior technicians in both laboratory practices and experimental skills.
15% - Manage and maintain wild-type and transgenic mouse colonies including breeding, genotyping, census, and filing IACUC documents.
10% - Supervise and maintain laboratory safety and compliance criteria for working with primary human cells, eye wash stations, animal carcasses, and other biohazards. Responsible for maintaining general lab cleanliness, operation, and ordering laboratory chemicals and other supplies. Assisting with general laboratory administrative tasks to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget, including laboratory maintenance, resource organization, ordering of supplies, management of laboratory protocols and reports, and coordination with collaborators.

Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science and one year work experience directly related to the assigned research area.

(Frequent) Ability to lift and carry 25-30 lbs. jugs of liquid a distance of 100 feet, unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to lift file boxes, from floor level to counter tops, unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to push/ Ability to lift 40 lbs. centrifuge rotors from floor level to height of 40 inches, then down 20 inches into centrifuge drum, unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to lift 25 lbs. boxes, from floor level to maximum height of 72 inches, unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to push/pull file boxes from one location to another at floor level. (Frequent) Ability to maneuver heavy equipment on bench tops, 50 lbs. or greater, unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors, normally. (Continuous) Ability to hear and recognize various alarms emitting from work area systems. (Continuous) Ability to hear and/or understand conversations. (Continuous) Ability to work in a darkroom for processing film, etc. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and annually. (Continuous)
Additional New Requirements: Ability to work rotating shifts as required. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required.
