We are currently seeking an UNIX Administrator to join our team. This position is in Norfolk, VA and is contingent upon contract award.
Position Overview:
The UNIX Administrator will be responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of UNIX systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability. This role requires hands-on expertise in UNIX administration, particularly Red Hat Linux, as well as experience managing various business systems and troubleshooting network/storage connectivity issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the configuration, monitoring, and optimization of UNIX-based operating systems and file systems.
- Maintain log files, monitor processes, and resolve system-related issues efficiently.
- Perform problem determination and resolution, software updates, security management, and hardware integration.
- Utilize administrative tools and utilities to maintain a stable operating environment.
- Manage the configuration and operation of business systems, including mainframe, mini, or client/server-based environments.
- Ensure systems are properly configured and secure, supporting business needs.
- Serve as the subject matter expert in Red Hat Linux administration, server virtualization, and application/Web server administration (Apache, Tomcat, WebLogic).
- Manage DNS (BIND), Oracle Directory Services, and network infrastructure (CISCO firewalls, routers, and switches).
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network and storage connectivity issues.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have or be able to obtain a security clearance up to the TOP SECRET level.
Experience:
- o Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a computer system administrator.
- o At least three (3) years of specialized experience administering UNIX systems.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in Red Hat Linux administration, server virtualization, application/web server administration (Apache, Tomcat, WebLogic), and DNS management (BIND).
- Experience with Oracle Directory Services and CISCO firewalls, routers, and switches.
- Proficient in network and storage connectivity configuration and troubleshooting.
Educational Requirements:
- • Bachelor's degree in an IT-related discipline and four (4) years of relevant experience, or
- • Seven (7) years of directly related experience without a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certifications in Red Hat Linux, network administration, or related fields are a plus.
The incumbent of this position will be subject to a background investigation and will be required to maintain a Government granted security clearance.
