Job Description:
Our client is looking for a strong UNIX Systems Engineer that will be responsible with managing servers running Solaris, AIX, and Linux operating systems in a 24/7 data center. Analyzes and resolves problems associated with UNIX server hardware and virtualization hypervisors. Performs installations and upgrades to UNIX operating systems. Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum level of performance. Conducts routine hardware and software audits of UNIX servers for compliance with established standards, policies, procedures and configuration guidelines. Provides technical expertise where required. Prepares and maintains necessary documentation.
- Support operational stability through vulnerability remediation and monthly patching, administration for Linux server operating systems on servers hosting internal/external enterprise applications and sites.
- Create and maintain information security throughout the Linux infrastructure via vulnerability remediation and application of patches and updates using tools including VMware, TrueSight Automation Console, SSH and Ansible Automation Platform.
- Ensure technical documentation exists for vulnerability remediation for all systems and is kept up to date.
- Document system configurations to include passwords, access controls, version number, and revision numbers, patch levels, and inventory to include hostnames, TCP/IP addresses, number of processors, and number of cores, memory, and license keys.
- Analyze and resolve problems associated with servers running on Dell server hardware and servers running on the VMware platforms.
- On-call rotation and after-hours work is required to support responsibilities.
- 3+ years' experience recent hand-on expertise with UNIX Engineering and VMware virtualization technologies, system management tools, logical file systems, systems maintenance in a mixed operating systems datacenter environment and client/server environments or other directly related experience.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with Linux server operating systems, Active Directory integration and control of user permissions with Linux native tools such as sudoers.
- Effectively communicate problems and solutions both verbally and in writing to internal customers and management.
- Extensive knowledge of RHEL 7, 8, 9 operating systems with knowledge of systems maintenance experience in a datacenter environment.
- Knowledge of Information Technology infrastructure components (firewall, database, operating system, network
- Problem solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to resolve complex issues with innovative solutions.
- Strong IT server platform configuration management and diagnostic skills.
- Strong knowledge of system management tools, logical file systems, and client/server environments.
- Understanding of TCP/IP networks/topology, storage, and LAN/WAN systems and applications as well as their dependencies.
- Experience with Ansible Automation Platform (AAP).
- Experience with VMWare vCenter or vSphere platforms helpful.
- Provision/configure required security and configuration settings onto servers using TrueSight Automation and Ansible or other scripting methods.
- Use native, add on tools, and third-party tools to troubleshoot malfunctions, optimizations. Tools include Resource Kits, Development Kits, and commercial tools.
