Hours: (full-time, 40 hrs/wk) M-Th, 8 am – 5 pm | Fr, 8 am – 2:30 pm (regular OT expected included weekends as needed)
Location: This position is located in Albany, NY – onsite work is required
Pay Range: $20 - $30/HR Individual compensation is based on various factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors. Fabricators Responsible for the cutting, bending, welding, and grinding of a variety of metals to carry out the shop’s metal fabrication requirements.
Digifabshop is a digital fabrication shop specializing in custom architectural interiors, building components, and fine art fabrication. Our work spans retail, hospitality, commercial, architectural features, and large-scale artwork. Our team works on technically ambitious, high-profile projects of complexity and scale.
Digifabshop is looking for an experienced Upholsterer. The Upholsterer at Digifabshop is responsible for the manufacture, upholstery, and inventory of all production cushion projects in the shop as well as custom leather and fabric upholstery work as required.
Primary responsibilities include:
Cuts and assembles all foam and cardboard cushion parts according to shop designs
Sorts leather hides for different uses according to shop-developed standards of quality and acceptability
Cuts leather hides into cushion pieces using templates and razor blades
Sew pieces of fabric and leather together with industrial sewing machine
Stretches and staples pieces of fabric and leather onto cushion bodies
Maintains all fabrics, leather, notions and equipment in an organized manner
Sprays finishes and adhesives on cushions and cushion components with HVLP spray gun
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and plans to ensure accurate execution of designs.
Materials Selection: Choose appropriate wood materials, veneers, and hardware for each project, considering durability, aesthetics, and budget constraints.
Quality Control: Monitor machine performance and conduct regular quality checks on finished products to ensure precision and adherence to specifications.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery and tools to keep them in optimal working condition.
Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, including the safe operation of machines tools and equipment, and report any safety issues or concerns.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of machine settings, maintenance activities, and production data.
Collaboration: Work closely with team members, including designers and production managers, to achieve project goals and meet client expectations.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Uses basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to solve problems as well as a working knowledge of fractions and decimals
Understands written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents
Well-organized. Able to work independently and efficiently using strong time management and problem-solving skills.
Balances quality and timeliness while carrying out shop assignments
Gives full attention to what other people are saying, takes time to understand the points being made, asks questions as appropriate
Proficient in use of electronic communication such as email, as well as Digifabshop’s payroll and HR software platforms
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
Strong measurement and mathematical skills for precise cutting and assembly
Ability to perform accurate calculations for dimensions and materials
Knowledge of different materials and their handling requirements
Attention to detail and commitment to precision.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Physical stamina and the ability to lift and handle materials.
Safety-conscious mindset.
Physical Requirements:
The ability to stand continuously for up to 2 hours at a time.
The ability to lift up to 75 lbs. frequently and repeatedly.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, fumes, and loud noises. Employees are always required to wear P.P.E. while on the manufacturing floor.
