ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s New York City team is looking for an Urban Technology Intern to join our team. This is a temporary position and is anticipated to last approximately three months with the potential for extension. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner
- Work with Planning and Technology team to perform GIS, 3D modeling and computational design tasks
- Assist in development of applications and technology solutions
- Assist in developing ETL workflows and data flows.
- Ability to develop dashboards and data visualizations
- Assist in development of big data and AI/ML Solutions
- Assist in development of planning and engineering solutions
- Perform analysis of data or calculations
- Perform field data collection and other on-site project support activities
- Prepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Fast learner, self-motivated
- Highly organized
- Capable of coordinating and performing multiple tasks concurrently
- Strong technical computer skills including 3D Modeling, GIS, Analytics
- Proficiency with Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of big data, and building and training generative AI models are a plus
- Experience working with programming, data science, and data visualization through scripting tools and languages such as Python, R, SQL and/or Knime are a plus
- Familiarity with Azure, AWS, and/or Databricks are a plus
- Experience with computational design using ArcGIS, Esri Modelbuilder, Rhino/Grasshopper, Autodesk Revit/Dynamo, and/or Unreal/Blueprints are a plus
- Experience providing solutions engineering with the Esri, Autodesk, and/or Bentley suites are a plus.
Qualifications
- Candidates must be a current student working towards their BS or master’s degree in urban planning/studies, architecture/urban design, landscape architecture, data science, GIS, computer and applied science, environmental science, public policy, or a related field
- Experience in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering and/or Architecture are pluses
Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in New York is $19/hr - $28/hr. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
VHB’s NYC staff normally work Tuesday through Thursday in our office at One Penn Plaza in Midtown Manhattan. Work on Mondays and Fridays is usually performed remote.
VHB provides all computer hardware and software necessary to perform assigned work.
VHB does not provide housing for internships.
