About the Job
The User Engagement Librarian provides front-line reference and consultation services, and high quality, professional service to all library users. The User Engagement Librarian manages daily reference services and serves as liaison between the Access Services and USER Services Divisions of the Library, and between the library and several university departments. Functionally the incumbent will report to the Associate Director for USER Services. The ideal candidate will have a strong customer service orientation, communication and analytical skills, and solid reference, instruction, and searching capabilities. This is a hybrid remote-onsite position with the potential for faculty status.
Responsibilities:- Provides reference, search, and consultation services to onsite and remote library users
- Manages daily reference services by triaging questions effectively to other librarian liaisons and subject specialists, and managing the liaison program
- Acts as liaison to multiple academic departments and forges collaborative relationships with users
- Promotes the library’s role in and participates on systematic review teams
- Provides orientations to new users, participates in the EBM curriculum, develops and teaches classes and training workshops
- Prioritizes user engagement and the user experience
- Develops new and innovative service and instruction delivery methods
- Implements special projects and new technologies as appropriate
- Liaises with Access Services staff to provide interlibrary loan (ILL) support, and provides reference training as appropriate
- Creates web resources (LibGuides) related to library services, programs, and products
- Manages the library’s social media and participates in library communications and public relations
- Serves as a member of the Collection Development team and other committees as appropriate
- Participates in and promotes the library through programming and exhibits
- Completes monthly, annual, and special reports for the department and library as needed
- Additional duties as assigned
Education requirement: Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an ALA accredited library school
Technical/computer skills: Demonstrated computer and technical literacy
Prior experience:
- Basic reference experience including online and in-person reference and mediated searching
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a strong customer services orientation
- Flexibility and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Proven ability to take initiative
- Previous library experience, preferably in an academic health sciences environment
Teaching experience: Basic supervisory experience, particularly in a team environment.
