Statement of Purpose
Performs a variety of tasks related to hospital repair, renovation, new construction, painting and mechanical upkeep. Responsible for routine building maintenance.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
Operates and maintains carpenter shop.
Does physical plant modifications required for new or replacement equipment installation.
Performs millwork, fabrication and installations, and estimates.
Assists the plant electrician with trouble-shooting and necessary repairs, as well as installation of new service or projects as needed.
Performs repair and replacement of windows.
Performs basic plumbing duties as assigned.
Takes call on a regular or as needed basis.
Responds to hospital emergency codes.
Responsible for related building and mechanical equipment upkeep, and general building security.
Custodial Duties in mechanical spaces as needed.
Performs preventive maintenance as assigned.
May be required to work off shifts or weekends as required.
Performs general electrical repair work, including fuse replacement, resetting circuit breakers, repair of patient call lights, etc.
Inspects and safety checks equipment in food & nutrition services.
Performs grounds maintenance as required.
Inspects the equipment and the operation of the boiler room periodically to see that safety regulations are met and efficient operations are maintained.
Starts and stops equipment, observing meters and gauges and manipulating valves and other controls to regulate flow of water and fuel to meet need for steam.
Assists plant mechanic in cleaning of boilers.
Starts, stops, adjusts and regulates mechanical equipment such as engines, compressors, generators, turbines, pumps and steam boilers during the respective shift.
Performs plumbing and/or electrical repairs and installations as required and qualified for.
Performs minor preventive maintenance and adjustments to dietary equipment. (I.E. Refrigerators, Freezers,etc.)
Performs minor preventive maintenance and adjustments to campus HVAC Systems. (I.E. AHU's, Exhaust Fans, etc.)
Observes meters, recorders, pressure and and draft gauges and manipulates valves to bring readings within specified requirements.
Periodically checks all mechanical rooms during the respective shift, recording readings in a logbook or on other forms.
Cleans boiler room on a daily basis.
Inspects equipment while in operation and makes minor repairs and/or adjustments when necessary.
May be required to provide repair service to other areas of the hospital on an irregular basis.
If required to talk while working in infant's room, speaks softly.
Encourages child to communicate if circumstances permit; conducts duties in a friendly manner.
Talks to adolescent patient in a friendly and reassuring manner.
Communicates with geriatric patient in a friendly and reassuring manner; is aware of physical problems like poor eyesight or loss of hearing when communicating with patient.
Solders, brazes, and welds material.

Working Conditions
Exposure to high noise, dust, heat, heavy lifting, high voltage, chemicals, and sometimes heights. Also, exposure to outside work year round.
Job Requirements
Required is a High School diploma or equivalent. Also required is 2 years of technical school or equivalent in the trades of plumbing, electrical, heating, refrigeration or air conditioning and/or a minimum of 5 years experience in general mechanical, electric, plumbing and HVAC. Must maintain training of existing Campus Honeywell Building Control Energy Management System at a Level 2 or greater.
