About the Job
The Utility Operator reports to the Utilities Supervisor to ensure the smooth daily function of the plant to include Boiler Room, Ammonia Systems, HVAC, and Wastewater Treatment Plant. Key components of the position will also include assurance of quality and safety practices and facilitation of teamwork among the Safety, Quality, Operations, Maintenance, and Utility group. Ensures all preventative maintenance and repairs to equipment within the scope of the Boiler Room, Ammonia Systems, HVAC, and WWTP. Assist with implementation and development of continuous improvement ideas. This technician will also serve as relief and vacation coverage for all Utility sections, for any shift needed covering the appropriate hours.
This position requires knowledge and experience in one of the Utility areas. The facility will ensure proper training and licensing in the remaining areas where needed.
Shift: 8 - 12 hr. day work shift, times and days will fluctuate depending on the coverage area.
Pay Rate: $32.76/hr.
Ammonia Refrigeration/HVAC:
• Ensures all PMs/Repairs to equipment including ammonia system, compressed air systems, cooling towers, condensers, water softeners, HVAC and related equipment are complete.
• Responsible for efficiency of equipment and safe operations of the plant Ammonia Systems.
• Review, understand and comply with all PSM requirements for the plant.
Boiler Operations:
• Monitor boilers per regulated standards.
• Test boiler feed water and condensate and log results.
• Blow down boilers per schedule.
• Monitor the ammonia (refrigeration) system.
• Monitor the plant compressed air system.
• Monitor and manipulate water systems as needed.
• Record and manage shift log, perform shift crossover daily.
• Responsible for Operator Care - basic lubrication, inspection adjustments, minor repairs, cleaning, calibration, preventative, and maintenance.
• Perform maintenance activities as needed beyond operator care to maintain all equipment and systems in good working condition to prevent failure.
Wastewater Treatment Plant:
• Operates the WWTP adjusting needed to produce effluent quality that is within the limits set by LOL & MN state requirements (includes startup, setup, operation, shutdown)
• Maintains the lab and performs all pre-treatment plant lab tests.
• Use lab test results for determining process strategies making data driven decisions.
• Responsible for Operator Care - basic lubrication, inspection adjustments, minor repairs, cleaning, calibration, preventative, and light maintenance
• Perform maintenance activities as needed beyond operator care to maintain all equipment and systems in good working condition to prevent failure.
• Understands & communicates all pertinent aspects of the operation & performance of the WWTP to plant operations during daily shift meetings.
• Communicates WWTP operations performance and issues to management.
• Manages chemical inventory.
All Utility Roles:
• Lifting heavy objects, painting, cleaning.
• Troubleshoot/Repair/Perform PM's on all equipment in accordance with applicable Federal, State and Local regulations.
• Complete assigned PMs and tasks in a timely manner.
• Ensures all necessary documentation is completed accurately, timely and legible.
• Required to perform all duties safely to prevent injuries to self and/or others.
• Ensure the quality of our products and our workplace by following all procedures and guidelines.
• Comply with all established GMPs, HACCP, LQMS, LMS and all other operating procedures.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge and a minimum of one year experience in at least one of the Utility roles (Ammonia Refrigeration, HVAC, Boiler, Waste Treatment)
• Good mechanical aptitude
• Must be willing to learn and perform duties in all aspects of the Utility role (Ammonia Refrigeration, HVAC, Boiler Room, Waste Treatment), which will require rotating amongst the roles to learn, along with maintaining knowledge and expertise in each area.
• Must be flexible with work assignments and willing to be a team player.
• Knowledge of and ability to learn, computers and software related to position.
• Must have positive attitude and good leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
