Job Summary
TheRoy labat the Moran Eye Center is seeking an undergraduate research assistant to assist with technical development of projects. The lab uses state-of-the-art electrophysiological, fluorescence imaging, viral and computational approaches for studies on visual signaling, encoding, computation and connectivity between cell types in healthy and diseased retinas.
The candidate will work under the guidance of the PI and coordinate with other lab members to assist in experimental design, development and software implementation. The candidate is expected to have excellent skills in one or more of the following: instrumentation (analog & digital), optics/imaging, electronics, and programming (Matlab, Python). The candidate will work to implement hardware and software needed for research studies. The candidate will also have the opportunity to analyze data, develop machine learning-based algorithms for analyzing data. Background in biomedical engineering/neuroscience/physics/engineering is preferred.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
+ Design and develop components for experimental platform.
+ Implement software modules, algorithms and programming scripts for analysis of imaging and electrophysiological data.
+ Work with instruments, electronics, and circuit (soldering and testing).
+ Assist in designing and testing custom optical setup.
+ Use CAD software to manipulate 3D files for printing and machining.
+ Participate in lab meetings.
Work environment:
Collaborative and supportive .
Minimum Qualifications
+ Experience with working in a lab environment (minimum 2 years)
+ Student at the University of Utah
Preferences
+ Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering/ instrumentation and control engineering/ neuroscience / computer science, or a related field.
+ Experience with troubleshooting, problem solving, component modification and engineering investigation.
