About the Job
The University of West Florida (UWF) Athletic Trainer (AT) is responsible for the prevention, assessment, immediate management, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries and conditions as defined by the State of Florida practice act as well as NCAA, UWF, Baptist Health Care, and Andrews Institute Sports Medicine Outreach guidelines and standards. The AT provides quality healthcare services to assigned sports, teams, and/or coverage sites in accordance with Sports Medicine agreements, including travelling with teams as required. The AT acts as an Ambassador for Baptist Health Care, Andrews Institute, and the Sports Medicine department, facilitating access and availability for all health care services. The AT is responsible for effectively communicating with all members of the athletic health care team, Sports Medicine Outreach Leadership, and University personnel. The AT is responsible for promptly documenting, tracking, and reporting athletic injuries from assigned sports and sites, ensuring medical records are maintained for all student-athletes. The AT in this position assists the student-athletes in completing forms required to receive medical services and will serve as the liaison to the University’s third party insurance administrator. The AT plays an integral role in educating appropriate personnel (i.e., coaches, athletic directors, administrators, officials, etc.) on emergency preparedness, injury prevention, and best practices for the health, care, and well-being of student-athletes, spectators, and staff. The AT assists with departmental events, services, and/or activities (ex. preparticipation physical exams, concussion baseline testing, injury clinics, etc.). The AT assists Sports Medicine Outreach Leadership and the BHC/AI Marketing department with managing advertisements and promotional opportunities at the University. The AT provides oversight of BHC-approved students from athletic training and/or other healthcare-related fields’ programs.
The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
Qualifications:
Bachelor or Master degree in Athletic Training.
Current license in the State of Florida.
Current BOC Certification.
BLS through American Heart Association.
Display knowledge of operations of Sports Medicine Outreach Program.
Familiar with medical terminology in reference to Sports Medicine Outreach Program.
Display excellent communication skills and customer service.
Familiar with industry and NCAA best practices and guidelines.
Care and prevention of athletic injuries.
Display knowledge of operations of physician networking and referral management.
Comfort in evaluation skills and setting up plan of care.
Problem solving and decision capabilities.
