About the Job
The Cataloging and Metadata Services department at Princeton University Library is hiring a new Language Cataloging Specialist to join the Cataloging and Metadata Services Department. This position provides accurate description of The Aziz Isa Elkun Collection, principally in Uyghur language. Reporting to the Team Leader of non-Roman Script Languages, the duties of this position include the creation and revision of bibliographical records in OCLC and in the Alma system. Primary duties include: receiving, providing original and copy cataloging, and processing Uyghur-language materials; contributing to the maintenance of bibliographic records; other special projects as assigned.
This is a 3-year (36 months) term position.
Responsibilities:- Creates original cataloging and complex copy cataloging for Uyghur language materials, applying cataloging standards and best practices according to RDA, LC-PCC-PS, Library of Congress controlled vocabularies, and call numbers using the Library of Congress Classification system.
- Performs associated name authority work following NACO instructions and standards.
- Three years of library (or equivalent academic) experience that demonstrates the ability to perform detailed analytical work with bibliographic description of datasets.
- Proficiency in Uyghur language in Arabic, Cyrillic, and Roman alphabet scripts.
- Grounding in cataloging principles and familiarity with current developments in resource description, along with flexibility and adaptability in the context of conceptual and technological change.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on projects with a variety of colleagues.
- Ability to manage time and projects effectively.
- Facility with a variety of bibliographic databases.
- Fluency in written and oral English
Preferred:
- Working knowledge of other languages, preferably Chinese, Kazakh, Mongolian.
- Experience analyzing and solving cataloging problems
