Mission or Goal of Unit:
The VCU Division of Vascular Surgery seeks to provide the mid-Atlantic’s most advanced, patient-oriented, cost-effective and safe vascular and endovascular services. In addition, the VCU Division of Vascular Surgery seeks to provide the region’s premier training environment for our region’s future vascular surgery specialists. Our division’s current clinical research includes the analysis of advanced vascular surgical techniques, including the treatment of complex thoracoabdominal aneurysms using fenestrated endografts, branches thoracic endografts, and physician modified endografts. The division continues to research and publish on its novel advanced alert system for acute limb ischemia, and its novel simplified approach to the treatment of axillosubclavian venous thrombosis using delayed first rib resection and scalenectomy. The division offers the region’s most advanced and varied options for the treatment of lower extremity arterial occlusive disease using ultrasound guided plaque disruption and atherectomy excision. Although recognized as a leading center for challenging vascular surgical problems, the division seeks to expand its regional profile as the vascular surgery provider of choice for all patients across the region.
Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Surgery is recruiting for an open rank, junior or mid-level, collateral-track (non-tenure track) faculty position in the Division of Vascular Surgery. Duties will include clinical responsibilities in all areas of vascular surgery. Additionally, the faculty member will participate in research endeavors to include the treatment of complex aortic aneurysms, novel and effective treatment of occlusive disease, as well as vascular surgery outcomes assessment.
Position Responsibilities:
Clinical: The faculty member will support the division’s already substantial clinical outreach efforts to Baird Vascular Institute, Pauley Heart and Vascular Center at Stony Point, VCU Community Memorial Hospital, VCU Tappahannock, Williamsburg, and Colonial Heights. Clinical responsibilities may be extended to a shared time between VCU and VA Medical Centers.
Teaching: The faculty member will support the division’s 40-year commitment to educating vascular surgery fellows, integrated vascular surgery residents, general surgery residents, and interdisciplinary fellows from cardiology and interventional radiology, as well as VCU medical students.
Research: Clinical research will be required. Opportunities for intramural and extramural funding will be explored with a goal towards extramural funding. Collaboration with basic science faculty in School of Medicine will be encouraged.
Service: Faculty member will serve on departmental, Medical College, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field (e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.).
Required Qualifications:
- Board certification or eligibility in vascular surgery
- Commitment to clinical and/or basic science research
- Demonstrated experience or dedication to working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification or eligibility for Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI)
- Record of external funding or proposal submissions to obtain funding
