About the Job
The VDC Engineer will support our organization’s technological intelligence to provide a successful product throughout the entire lifecycle of the project. You will support our Preconstruction & Operations Teams with design assist projects and from pre-construction through project turnover. We strive to be our clients’ best advocate and this position plays a key role to build projects digitally to work out issues and then build it efficiently in the physical world. This position will collaborate with diverse teams to evaluate scenarios for optimal decisions and processes.
Responsibilities:- Provide support to Preconstruction & Operations Teams in the development of deliverables including, but not limited to, visual mock-ups, logistics plans, phasing plans, 4D schedules, trade coordination and clash detection, and construction aides.
- Collaborate with Preconstruction & Operations Teams in solving problems using digital production software.
- Ability to use innovative and integrated approaches to manipulate and create building models.
- Precision when comparing and analyzing models and construction documents.
- Provide technical support for a range of applications used in-house. (BIM 360, Revit, FormIt, Navisworks Manage, P6, Procore, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, etc.)
- Coordinate schematic and detailed level models including modeling across all disciplines (Civil, Structural, Architectural, MEP, etc.).
- Identify construction conflicts and incomplete or ambiguous design information.
- Manage model changes through design updates and as-built conditions.
- Collaborate with Preconstruction Teams on quantity take-off using VDC software.
- Document job progress and schedules within a building model.
- Assist in refining best practices for the following activities by using VDC software: Monitor project labor, Report and track equipment needs, Implement applicable safety programs, Submittal, Issues and QA/QC process management, Comprehensive handover of as-built documents and equipment data at the end of the construction cycle.
- Support Preconstruction Team in implementation of corporate VDC strategy, initiatives, and standard operating procedures.
Project lifecycle responsibilities:
- Support project and software setup for 3D trade coordination, site logistical planning, and 4D scheduling.
- Aide and support training in various software packages (i.e.: Navisworks Manage, Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Procore Models, etc.)
- Administer and support VDC coordination kick-off meeting and subsequent meetings.
- Configuring of project site to host BIM data (if applicable) or other equitable platforms.
- Perform VDC work and support project personnel in VDC processes, including assistance with related technical support issues.
- Assist Operations Teams in developing project specific VDC strategies, scope and plan in addition to standard processes.
- Assist on-site Operations Teams in the implementation of VDC applications and processes in addition to VDC deliverables.
- Assist Operations Teams with project specific contract language for subcontractor trade buyout.
- 2+ years’ experience in the construction industry, in particular design and/or VDC/BIM related processes.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture.
- Certifications in VDC/BIM or related fields preferred.
- Ability to effectively manage and multi-task VDC operations and processes on 2-3 projects.
- Collaborate and understand complex processes and produce solutions.
- Understand, communicate, and explain technical processes and programs to everyday users.
- Speak and present professionally, both internally and externally.
- Light travel, generally limited to an occasional (1 per month) day-trip or over-night trip to visit project sites.
- Lead VDC efforts and be led by project leadership roles.
Working Conditions:
- The VDC Engineer’s work is primarily performed indoors out of a main office or field office
at the construction site; occasionally outdoors in various weather conditions with some exposure to
health or safety hazards, including noise level may range from moderate to loud. - Light physical effort is required, including the handling of objects up to 20 pounds and some standing,
walking, sitting, talking and/or hearing. - Construction site will change or vary and/or position may require travel.
