VDC Manager - Eastern Division - W. G. Yates & Sons Construction Company

W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Company has one opening available for the position of VDC Manager – Eastern Division with the following qualifications:

Requires U.S. Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management. Also requires five years of experience as Preconstruction Engineer in: providing model management for all BIM/VDC preconstruction tasks; conducting parametric estimating, extracting material takeoff quantities using 3D models; and developing, coordinating, and delivering a big data approach to using VDC on projects. Periodic relocation to unanticipated client construction sites anywhere in the U.S. every 9 to 24 months. Background check and drug test required.

Job duties for the position include:

Plan and design structures by using Virtual Design and Construction tools to ensure efficient construction and optimal project outcomes. Create 2D and 3D site logistics phasing plans and establish, document, and maintain 3D model coordinates. Gather and analyze 3D content modeled by others, and model any content not provided, making sure to incorporate design updates into project models. Assess models for accuracy, looking for errors and omissions and making corrections as necessary. Laser scan point cloud integrations with Building Information Models. Create 4D schedules and simulations in order to enable planners and construction staff to visualize the construction sequencing including staging such as cranes, material storage, and site access and to help identify errors in the plan and optimize the path of construction. Interpret construction documents and apply them to VDC processes. Coordinate project teams on VDC implementation and Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation throughout the project lifecycles from design and construction to facilities management within the Eastern Division. Plan VDC implementation opportunities in the marketing, pursuit, pre-construction, and construction phases of each project in order to promote increased efficiency and accuracy in execution of construction contracts. Design and implement VDC strategy, processes, and standards and apply throughout the project life cycles. Support project teams and corporate departments in the implementation and use of Virtual Design and Construction tools and processes. Assist project personnel in the implementation of VDC goals on their projects through training and support, and track and report on VDC metrics for each project. Facilitate ongoing collaboration among VDC personnel including the sharing of best practices and lessons learned, and actively participate in and lead ongoing strategic initiatives related to VDC and innovation. Conduct BIM, Design, and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (“MEP”) coordination sessions with key stakeholders to formulate goals for each project and ensure that all parties understand project VDC implementation processes. Interact regularly with jobsites and maintain an understanding of project VDC implementations onsite, mitigating issues and keeping abreast of developments on the jobsite.
