Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for a Transmission Calibration Engineer for our Electrified Propulsion Development (ePD) team in Chino, CA:
We are seeking a motivated Vehicle Drivability Engineer for assisting in the development of Drivability and Shift Quality of Hyundai and Kia vehicles in the Performance and Drivetrain Development group. This group is responsible for supporting new model development, calibration of drivability functions, understanding US customer sentiment and competitive assessment of vehicle performance. This group develops gasoline, gasoline hybrid and gasoline plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Vehicle Testing
- Vehicle update and instrumentation: install data acquisition equipment and sensors for acceleration, GPS and thermal data. Update vehicle controllers with the latest software releases. Reverse engineer CAN bus signals for competitive analysis
- On-Track execute HATCI test procedures for drivability and shift quality data collection and ensure data integrity
- On-Road Participate in vehicle evaluation, and ride-and-drive activities and provide subjective feedback regarding vehicle performance as well as identify drivability and shift quality issues
- Customer clinics participate in the design and execution of customer clinics to get in-depth knowledge of drivability issues
- Drivability Calibration
- Development of countermeasure and tuning of control system parameters to effect changes
- Change INCA calibration data in order to meet HATCI performance targets.
- Data Analysis
- Utilize data analysis tools such as apps in Matlab, AVL Drive, and INCA to create plots to determine the root cause of drivability issues, compare against competitive data and demonstrate countermeasure effectiveness.
- Review customer feedback in JD Power IQS, Consumer Reports, Enprecis and customer clinics to try to understand areas of improvement for vehicle development.
- Reporting
- Write concise reports to document drivability issues, countermeasure effectiveness, competitive analysis.
- Hybrid program available with up to 2 days per week depending on business needs.

Compensation
- $70,000 - $100,000

Required Experience:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar related degree
- Demonstrated understanding of dynamics, control systems, thermal systems, and powertrain systems/
- Valid Drivers License and satisfactory driving record
- Willing and able to travel up to 25% of time, including extended stays (e.g., 2~4 weeks) in Ann Arbor, Michigan for training and collaboration.

Desirable:
- Master's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science or Computer Engineering
- 2~5 years of experience in
- Vehicle development especially for drivability or transmission shift quality.
- ETAS INCA or other CAN calibration tools
- Vehicle Spy or other CAN decoding experience.
- MATLAB, Python coding experience for data processing
- High proficiency in PowerPoint for reporting and presentation
- High proficiency in Excel for data analysis
- Proficiency in Matlab, Python for batch data processing
