About the Job
- Communicates, implements, and enforces BGCMLA operational policies and procedures.
- Ensures a fun, healthy, and safe youth-friendly environment by keeping facilities, grounds, equipment, and supplies clean and well-maintained.
- Promotes and stimulates program participation and provides guidance and role modeling for members.
- Optimizes use of Club facilities, staff, and resources to fulfill organizational mission and strategies.
- Assesses, with the Area Director, the Club’s membership level average daily attendance and frequency of attendance.
- Works with the Area Director to develop and implement strategies to increase membership and attendance.
- Assesses the youth's needs, interests, and characteristics to develop targeted programs that result in an outcome-driven club experience.
- Effectively plans, implements and actively supervises programs, services, and activities for members.
- Monitors and evaluates programs, services, and activities to ensure the safety of members, program outcomes, quality of programs, and appearance of the site at all times.
- Evaluates and encourages program participation for targeted programs.
- Supports identifying and evaluating opportunities to improve program effectiveness based on participation and achievement of stated goals utilizing NYOI, YPQA, observations, etc.
- Ingrains the five (5) key elements of positive youth development into the Club’s Culture.
- Independently supervises large youth groups, indoors and outdoors, with youth safety as a top priority.
- Recognizes and reacts quickly to problems – arguing, fighting, horseplay, etc. – and stops the undesirable activity quickly.
- Addresses behavioral issues promptly and assists in conflict resolution with parents and members.
- Works with staff and members to correct unsafe behaviors, ensure emergency procedures are followed, and take actions to prevent accidents.
- Assists in managing the budget for programmatic supplies, ensuring appropriate spending and resource allocation.
- Submits monthly expense reports and maintains financial records for programmatic expenditures.
- Supports developing and submitting necessary administrative paperwork for grant and program reports.
- Supervises program staff, volunteers, and interns.
- Fulfills Human Resources functions, including hiring practices and employee management.
- Demonstrates a knowledge of, interest in, and respect for the community the Club serves.
- Assists in developing and cultivating partnerships within community organizations and school systems to advance programs at the Club.
Requirements:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION:
- High School diploma or GED, minimum of two years of college experience. Prefer a four-year degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
- At least two years of direct youth service experience and a record demonstrating youth program project management, planning, and implementation. Previous experience working with at-risk youth.
- At least one year of demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience at a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization. Other relevant experience may be considered.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
- Hold a valid drivers’ license and pass motor vehicle driving record check.
- Pass criminal background check.
- Pass (negative result) a TB test.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS:
- Knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, and programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs; principles and practices of supervision and management; principles and practices of project management; principles and practices of youth development and quality programs.
- Skilled in understanding of group dynamics and ability to run group activities; planning, organizing, promoting, implementing, and evaluating program activities; and working towards positive outcomes.
- Ability to supervise, train, motivate and coach staff, assesses challenges; builds trust and respect among fellow team members; values the input and know-how of other team members; organizes and prioritizes time well and focuses on completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision; demonstrates exceptional attention to detail and takes pride in the quality of work performed.
WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING:
- Travel between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles sites and schools and various field trip sites as well as in the community is required. Must meet the insurance standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles.
- Work is performed in the community as well as an office setting.
- Hours are based on school calendar and attendance patterns/trends - evening hours are required during the school year; hours will vary during summer and school breaks; occasional weekend hours are required.
