Summary - basic function of the role
This role is a global Business Development role that develops, oversees, leads, and coordinates the growth strategy in the respective vertical market. The Vertical Market Leader is responsible for driving results and impact, utilizing the regional commercial teams and the wider functional organization in place. There will be a strong focus on the commercial development of the business, next to - albeit to a lesser extent - engineering and operations. The Vertical Market Leader will have the overall responsibility for the strategic direction, operational, and financial results of the vertical market globally. He/She is tasked with growing the business: building brand awareness, mapping market potential, and driving sales (organic as well as inorganic) in EMEA, APAC, and the Americas directly and via channel partners. The successful candidate is expected to find in this role a steppingstone to other leadership roles.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Mapping customer demand and updating/optimizing the product offering and adjusting the product portfolio roadmap accordingly.
- Enabling the regional Sales & Marketing organization to deliver top & bottom-line growth.
- Work with Regional Business Leaders to develop and implement the commercial strategies for the specific products across the vertical market globally.
- Drive digital business transformation and transition the vertical to a best-in-class customer experience.
- Support innovation by working with product management to improve the product roadmap for the vertical.
- Develop the organizational capabilities that enable the business strategy. Create, implement, and improve processes and work with the Regional Business Leaders to develop structures that deliver strategic goals, creating a well-aligned and unified team.
- Indirectly lead and motivate a high performing, globally dispersed, and aligned team.
- Drive change management in specific areas, roll out companywide initiatives.
- Identify, initiate, and execute acquisitions, capturing opportunities offered because of a presently fragmented market in the form of smaller players.
Skills and Competencies
- Experience in running a P&L in an industrial equipment or Services business selling directly and or via channel partners.
- Deep and relevant experience in the specific vertical market
- A track record of delivering growth in sales, earnings, through customer development and/or acquisitions.
- Well versed in development of the product portfolio, manufacturing set-up and/or supply chain.
- Experience leading a complex, matrixed organization, especially within a global/international company.
- Strong financial and business acumen. Understands business implications of decisions.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or equivalent experience is required. Master's degree in business preferred.
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in a marketing, engineering and/or sales role; experience or high exposure to industrial products in global markets is strongly preferred; sustained record of self-motivated industrial/manufacturing sales or marketing achievements. Experienced assisting in the sale and promotion of products in the field. Experienced in gathering the voice of customers from end users.
Physical Demands
Employee may have to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds in weight. Employee may have to lift tools up to 100 pounds in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, including traveling by air/auto to remote sites. This can include occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members in person, telephonically, and electronically at all levels within a diverse workforce and with supported organizations. Employee can work in front of a personal computer and telephone for long periods of time. Will have repetitive motions that include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Work Environment
The primary work environment is temperature-controlled office setting but may also be visiting different customers where following appropriate safety protocols at the location would be required. While visiting customers, employee may occasionally be exposed to high/low temperatures, outdoor elements (such as precipitation and wind), high levels of noise, hazardous conditions, poor ventilation, small and/or enclosed spaces, or adverse environmental conditions.
