Community Medical Services (CMS) is hiring a Veteran Support Specialist. Under the supervision of the Community Impact Manager, the Veteran Support Specialist will play a pivotal role in assisting military veterans with opioid addiction treatment, focusing on personalized care that acknowledges their unique military background and related mental health challenges.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Key responsibilities encompass connecting individuals to veteran-specific programs and materials, organizing specialized groups like trauma-informed sessions and equine therapy in collaboration with potential partners (e.g. Saddles of Joy).
- They will also engage in targeted outreach, connecting with veterans at specialized events and through partnerships with local agencies such as Solari Crisis and Human Services, Right Turn for Yuma Veterans, and National Community Health Partners (NCHP).
- The position will receive training in trauma-informed care to assist in offering life skills and skills-based education tailored to veterans' needs. Additionally, mindfulness practices will be incorporated to address stress and trauma, with an emphasis on family involvement to support the veterans' overall recovery journey.
- Attends provider meetings and other meetings within the community where they exist; attends community meetings for purpose of advocating, educating, and supporting system partner relationships Attends staffing or Adult Recovery Team meetings as needed. Supports program development and implementation; works with project and program management team.
- Provides documentation of all possible client/agency encounters . Maintains Community Relations documentation/ log for all contracts, meetings, conversations, presentations, and other outreach activities.
- Maintains appropriate coordination of care with all systems and provides documentation as needed.
Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D., College level coursework required
- Motor Vehicle Valid state-issued driver's license and MVR clearance is required; a 39-month MVR is required for any applicant at the time of the interview” statement is required for job description.
- Associate’s degree with an emphasis in Human Services, Counseling and Psychology preferred but not required.
- Peer Support or RSS training certificate of completion required within 90 days of hire. An equivalent combination of education.
- Must have prior experience as a Recovery Coach or similar required
- Commensurate experience in another agency is preferred

- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively between all organizational levels and with outside providers
- Computer knowledge, including ability to navigate in electronic health records
- General knowledge and aptitude for working independently with adults of mixed ethnic groups
- Culturally competent and sensitive to client and employee needs
- Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail

- Ability to maintain confidentiality to ensure compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR, Part 2
- Flexible with the ability to work in a continuously changing environment
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
Tools and Equipment
- Frequent use of a telephone, computer, printer, fax machine and copier
- Frequent use of the internet and various web browser software, and Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Physical Working Conditions and Office Setting Description
- Ability to travel to assigned CMS sites
- Prolonged sitting, standing, frequent bending, stooping, or stretching associated with an office environment
- Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard
- Frequent and prolonged typing and operation of computer, keyboard, and telephones
- Some lifting may be required: Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
