Advanced Veterinary Medical Center is urgently hiring an Assistant Veterinary Technician for our hospital located in El Sobrante, California.
We are a high-paced, multi-doctor practice that is open 7 days a week. With 1-2 doctors on staff a day, we are seeking a driven, reliable, detail-oriented, and well-versed individual to join our team as a Veterinary Assistant. We serve our surrounding communities as a full-service veterinarian. We proudly provide high-quality care and medicine to our patients and are looking to grow our team! Our team provides wellness & preventative care, urgent care, digital full body & dental radiography, dental prophylaxis, complete in-house laboratory, soft tissue & orthopedic surgeries, and more. This is a mid-level position, experience is required. (eventually expanding hours, weekend hours will be required)

Standard Expectations:
- Uphold ethics and emphasis on sanitation and sterile technique.

- Maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with patients, clients, and coworkers.
- Ability to efficiently multitask in high-stress environments (i.e.: high telephone volume, emergencies, and euthanasia).
- Maintain telephone traffic and appointments scheduled promptly.
- Maintain proper paperwork and medical records as required by law.
- Comfortable using multiple digital platforms (i.e.: Windows, Idexx Neo, Gmail, and Google Drive).
- Efficiently execute all steps of AVMC's standard operating procedures.
Positions Expectations include but are not limited to:
- Provide humane care and treatment to every patient.
- Re-stock supplies and upkeep the treatment area and exam rooms.
- Accurately calculate, draw, and prepare medications upon DVM request.
- Monitor, and maintain animals under anesthesia.
- Assist with all aspects of prophies and surgeries (i.e.: patient preparation and recovery, procedure preparation, and sterilization).
- Initiation of emergency medical practices as necessary.
- Ensure that each animal receives the proper vaccinations.
- Able to draw blood, place IV catheters, take X-rays, and clean and sterilize surgical instruments.
- Maintain department equipment in good working order. Report items for repair/replacement as needed to management promptly.
- Patient assessment and physical examinations
- Phlebotomy and catheter placement
- Knowledge of radiology safety and proper technique
- Anesthesia monitoring proficiency
- Routine dental prophylaxis experience
- Knowledge of basic IDEXX laboratory procedures

- Previous veterinary experience is required
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous Veterinary experience is REQUIRED
- Experience with Neo and IDEXX is highly preferred.
