About This Role
The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our dedicated Small Animal Surgery team to help facilitate exemplary patient care and quality customer service. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support for the surgery team in caring for client, teaching, and research animals in the VHC. Though there are many ways Veterinary Assistants provide support, some of the key ways are through enhancing help during busy surgery schedules, assisting with teaching opportunities, and helping with research projects. Individuals in this role will also provide meaningful support through maintaining inventory, organizing necessary equipment, and monitoring and assisting in basic aspects of patient care. Effective communication and leadership skills are utilized daily. Normal work hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm with a rotating emergency on-call schedule. This position will be a 9-month appointment.

What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma and one year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Veterinary Assistant Certification
- College study with course work in animal science or closely related field
- Ability to handle, restrain, and provide assistance for medical services to senior veterinary students, clinicians, and Registered Veterinary Technicians for domestic animals
- Ability to maintain and use ordinary veterinary medical hospital equipment
- Ability to perform word processing and data entry procedures on a personal computer
- Be willing and able to master new techniques
- Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees, professional personnel, and the public
- Ability to write and interpret written direction
- Ability to communicate orally with professional and subordinate personnel
