Job Summary:
A Veterinary Assistant provides compassionate care to animals and assists veterinarians and veterinary technicians with various tasks. The role requires a blend of clinical skills, administrative duties, excellent customer service, and general cleaning responsibilities. We are hiring for both full-time and part-time positions.
Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care:
- Assist in restraining animals during examinations and procedures.
- Provide basic care such as feeding, watering, and bathing animals.
- Clean and sanitize animal cages, examination rooms, and equipment.
- Monitor and report changes in animals' behavior or condition.
Clinical Support:
- Prepare animals and instruments for surgery.
- Assist with laboratory tests, including blood draws and collecting samples.
- Administer medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarian.
Client Interaction:
- Greet clients and their pets, ensuring a warm and welcoming environment.
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care, nutrition, and medication.
- Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and manage client records.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
- Stock veterinary supplies and medications.
- Assist in managing inventory and organizing storage areas.
- Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations and protocols.
Emergency Care:
- Assist with emergency procedures and critical care.
- Provide first aid to injured animals as needed.
- Help in the stabilization and transport of animals in urgent situations.
Cleaning and General Maintenance:
- Clean and maintain all areas of the hospital, including waiting rooms, exam rooms, and treatment areas.
- Ensure a clean, sanitary, and organized environment by regularly disinfecting surfaces and equipment.
- Dispose of waste and hazardous materials according to safety protocols.
- Perform general maintenance tasks as needed to keep the facility in good working order.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working with animals is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle and restrain animals safely.
- Basic knowledge of animal care and medical terminology.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move heavy animals.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Working Conditions:
- Fast-paced, dynamic environment in veterinary clinics or animal hospitals.
- Exposure to various animals, including those that are sick or injured.
- Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases and hazardous materials.
- Physical demands include standing for long periods, lifting, and handling animals of various sizes.
Employment Type:
Full-Time Positions:
