The Vice President - Controller is responsible for managing the Bank’s accounting functions, including overseeing financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and general ledger maintenance. This role requires a strategic leader to enhance financial reporting, ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards, and support the CFO in delivering high-quality financial analysis to Senior Management. This position will also manage a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture, and drive continuous improvement in finance processes.
Responsibilities:- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).
- Analyze major financial fluctuations and provide insights to Senior Management on key performance metrics.
- Prepare and present internal financial results to the Board of Directors and Senior Management, supporting data-driven decisions.
- Collaborate with the CFO to improve the quality and relevance of financial reports, aligning reporting with strategic objectives.
- Lead the Bank’s annual financial statement audit with external auditors, ensuring timely completion and accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory reporting requirements, including quarterly Call Reports, FDIC, and Federal Reserve submissions.
- Prepare income tax provisions, remit estimated tax payments, and coordinate with external tax consultants for accurate tax returns.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable GAAP, IRS, and OCC rules to adapt bank policies as needed.
- Manage and maintain the Bank’s General Ledger, including account setups, interface tables, cost center adjustments, and report updates.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness in all ledger activities, with periodic reviews for consistency and regulatory compliance.
- Implement improvements to streamline and digitize accounting processes, aligning with the Bank’s strategic direction.
- Establish and maintain an effective internal control environment, safeguarding Bank assets and ensuring efficient execution of financial processes.
- Conduct regular reviews of internal controls, supporting compliance reviews, internal audits, and external audit requirements.
- Monitor CECL (Current Expected Credit Losses) calculations to ensure accurate and compliant loan loss provisioning.
- Provide positive, effective leadership to the accounting team, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Encourage professional development, offer guidance, and implement strategies to enhance team performance.
- Collaborate with Senior Management on strategic initiatives, proactively identifying areas for operational improvement.
- Serve as a resource for department managers, offering expertise on financial reporting and internal control standards for new products and services.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s degree preferred).
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Minimum of seven years of experience in accounting or finance, ideally within financial institutions, with five or more years in leadership roles.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with Senior Management and lead the accounting team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel capabilities.
- Experience with financial software such as FIS General Ledger, Optima, Empyrean, Abrigo CECL, and Avid Exchange is preferred.
