The VP, Partnerships position has overall responsibility for leading and implementing a new standardized delivery model of our clinical trials with our external partners including the standardization of agreements, ways of working, and scaling across GD, JRD and Medical Affairs. This role will manage our external partnerships including CROs for staff augmentation estimated ~4000 resources in staff augmentation across the globe; central laboratory services, specialty vendors and business process owner relations for delivery across the various components for drug development including data management, programming, eTMF, technology & system maintenance and site payments. The totality of the budgetary responsibility is ~$1B per annum.
Additionally, this role will also be responsible for building a new forensic accounting capability for JRD/Medical Affairs and GD to deliver operational efficiencies of up to $300M per year.
This position will report directly to the global head of Global Development and will sit on the Global Development senior leadership team.
Key partnerships - TA Heads; JRD & MA Senior Leaders/Heads; Legal; BRQC; Procurement; GD Senior Leaders; Industry Peers; Executive Leaders of key Janssen Partners related to drug development for JRD and Medical Affairs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the global partnership management team (approximately 45 including 6 direct reports), initiate and manage new partnerships, oversee and govern those relationships & contracts to assure delivery across the MAF/JRD portfolios to timelines, quality and costs within the drug development ecosystem.
- Accountable to navigate and drive key strategic partnership growth, steering the external teams that enable core elements of drug development for Janssen.
- Direct the pricing strategy to assure the most cost effective and streamlined approach to activities conducted through those partners.
- Broad and diverse leadership to assure that the different components of the ecosystem are effectively managed - staff augmentation around the globe dealing with resource management & allocation versus delivery of activities associated and provided by central laboratories, specialty vendors versus business process optimization with services such as data management, programming, site payments and technology support/maintenance.
- Steering and directing a global based team, some of whom will be collocated with key strategic partners for example, in India, to secure engagement, networking and assure the successful elevation, compliance and functional delivery from those key partners.
- Partnering with legal, procurement & HR to assure the staff augmentation around the globe of ~4000 are managed appropriately and in a cost-effective model for the delivery of the entire Janssen portfolio.
- Set the strategy and build the industry leading capabilities to support forensic accounting, understanding areas of efficiency and financial planning with our partners, assuring $300M of savings per annum.
- As evolution of industry continues this role is responsible for assuring development of capabilities within the multiple vendors to assure efficiencies and productivity savings are assured. In collaboration with the key partners there is an expectation that digital engines are created and maximized to support the activities within drug development.

Education :
- BA/BS required. Preferred area of study: Scientific Discipline or Business
- A minimum of 15 years with progressive leadership experience in the Pharmaceutical industry is required, specific experience in developing and leading strategic partnerships preferred
- Previous project management leadership experience at an executive level
- Successful demonstration of leading groups successfully through change management and to higher performance
- Successful track record of developing talent and leaders of leaders
- Strong ability to make, impact and influence difficult decisions, proven experience in establishing and maintaining executive level relations; leveraging a broad base of tactics & excellent communication skills
- Strong ability to develop, maintain and influence stakeholder relationships internally and externally with Sr. Management (TA Leadership, Finance, GD Leaders, Business Development etc.)
- Proven track record of collaboration across organizations to innovate, implement efficiencies and drive complex change
- Experience in working in cross-functional teams and managing large projects - change management/leadership experience in driving complex and significant, transformation efforts
- Trusted, inclusive leader with demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring cross functional, global teams is required
- Effective leadership skills and proven ability to foster team productivity and cohesiveness in changing environment is required
- Sound financial acumen is required

- Success in managing large teams (20 ); with a minimum of 10 years people management experience required.
- Key INTERNAL working relationships: Alignment with all Executive leaders within TA/MA, R&D and MA Senior Leaders, VP of BRQC, Legal, Global Development.
- Key EXTERNAL working relationships: Industry Peers, Key Strategic Partners & Specialty Vendors.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $203,000 to $373,750. The compensation and benefits information set forth in this posting applies to candidates hired in the United States. Candidates hired outside the United States will be eligible for compensation and benefits in accordance with their local market.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year.
