Job Title: Medication Aide / Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Day Shift
Hours: 8 hours: 6:00am-2:30pm 12 hours: 6am to 630pm
Location: Village East

Reports To: Director of Nursing
Job Summary: The Medication Aide / Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing comprehensive care to residents in an assisted living and memory care setting. This role combines the responsibilities of a CNA with the specialized task of administering medications under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. The Medication Aide / CNA ensures the safe and effective delivery of medication while also assisting with daily living activities and monitoring resident health.
Environment Summary: Village East is a 64-bed licensed assisted living facility that opened in 2019. It offers specialized care across two floors: the first floor provides secure memory care for individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia, while the second floor offers enhanced assisted living for residents requiring a higher level of support. Our compassionate staff ensures personalized care in a modern, welcoming environment, where residents can feel safe, respected, and at home.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medication Administration:
- Administer prescribed medications to residents according to physician orders and facility policies.
- Ensure proper documentation of medication administration and track medication schedules.
- Monitor residents for any side effects or adverse reactions to medications and report any concerns to the charge nurse.
- Maintain accurate medication records and ensure medications are stored securely.
- Resident Care:
- Assist residents with personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Support residents with mobility, including transferring, positioning, and walking.
- Provide assistance with feeding and ensure residents receive proper nutrition and hydration.
- Monitor and document residents’ vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
- Observe and report any changes in residents' physical, mental, or emotional conditions to the charge nurse.
- Daily Living Assistance:
- Help residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) and personal care routines.
- Ensure residents’ living areas are clean, comfortable, and safe.
- Engage residents in social and recreational activities to promote mental and emotional well-being.
- Communication:
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with residents, their families, and other healthcare providers.
- Communicate effectively with residents, using appropriate techniques to address their needs and preferences.
- Collaborate with the nursing team and other staff to create and implement individualized care plans.
- Health and Safety:
- Adhere to infection control procedures and maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Follow protocols for reporting incidents, accidents, and any changes in resident conditions.
- Assist with emergency response and provide first aid as needed.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care provided, including medication administration and any observations related to residents’ health and behavior.
- Document and report any changes or issues to the nursing staff and update care plans as necessary.
- Professional Development:
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge, particularly in medication administration and safety.
- Stay informed about best practices in assisted living and memory care.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; CNA certification required. Medication Aide certification required.
- Experience: Previous experience in a similar healthcare setting preferred but not required.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with elderly residents and individuals with memory impairments.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology, procedures, and medication administration.
- Ability to handle physically and emotionally demanding tasks.
- Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to providing high-quality care.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, and move residents and equipment.
- Capability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
Working Conditions:
- Every other weekend, every other holiday rotation.
- Potential exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids.
- Fast-paced environment with varying degrees of physical and emotional demands.
Salary and Benefits:
- $17.00/hour-$27.54/hour
- Salary based on experience and qualifications.
