About the Job
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Violence Recovery Specialist III in our Community Health department. This position requires you to work onsite four days per week. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
The Violence Recovery Specialist- Level III (VRS III) position part of the Violence Recovery Program (VRP), a hospital-based violence intervention program that provides support to those affected by community violence by acting as primary liaison to community based violence prevention/outreach agencies. Specifically, the VRS III will act as the primary liaison to community based organizations centered on violence prevention, recovery and interruption by direct engagement and service coordination.
Essential Job Functions
- Engage families upon arrival and throughout patient care in the emergency department to provide crisis intervention (psychological first aid, facilitate clinical updates, patient visitations, death notification, viewing, and acute bereavement services), Resist re-traumatization and operate from a trauma informed care approach
- Engage victims and families of violence while present at the UChicago Medicine and post-discharge (field engagement) to provide case management services (trauma informed psycho-education, assess re-injury risk and protective factors, and deliver appropriate intervention and/or provide community-based intervention referral, as appropriate, engage in interdisciplinary trauma assessment and treatment planning team meetings)
- Document patient and program data
- Assist management in program development and delivery of the long-term intensive case management services
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Must have advanced degree (Bachelor's or Master's degree) in counseling, social work, psychology or similar degree and/or demonstrate superior functioning in Recovery Specialists 2 position for 2+ years
- Must have 2-3 years of experience in community-based violence prevention with community/social service/health organization
- Passion for and dedication to working with community members
- The ability to arrive at work locations on-time and on a dependable basis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; comfortability with communications
- Proactive learner that is comfortable working across teams and in clinical environment
- Comfortability with ambiguity
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, evenings, weekends and holidays
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Strong interpersonal skills, especially when dealing with medical professionals and local officials and community organizations
- Exceptional attention to detail; exceptional organizational skills, punctuality and record of reliability
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Social Worker or Clincial counselor - LCSW, LCPC, LSW, LPC
- Previous experience working in community based violence prevention
- Familiarity with and experience working in Chicago’s Southside communities
- EPIC experience
