Volunteer Programs and Opportunities
Mission
The Kenaitze Indian Tribe is committed to providing an unparalleled level of service and support to the Kahtnuht'ana Dena'ina Community. To achieve this goal the tribe seeks to recruit and maintain a volunteer pool of dynamic and dedicated community members who are willing to devote their time to assist the tribe in providing exemplary services.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Kenaitze Indian Tribe currently offers volunteer placement in the following programs:
Dena'ina Wellness Center Ambassador Program
The purpose of the Dena'ina Wellness Center's Ambassador Program is to help guide Un'ina (customer) to appointments, greet Un'ina, and provide companionship to Un'ina (customer) in waiting rooms, get coffee, snacks or other items that make the wait more comfortable.
The Ambassador Program's volunteers are a vital, dynamic group which devotes their time to perform services that are "extras", designed to help Un'ina (customer) and their families, and which would not otherwise be provided by the Dena'ina Wellness Center.
Early Childhood Center
The Early Childhood Center welcomes volunteers and practicum students to provide assistance in the classrooms with reading, playing, art projects and more. Volunteers take an important role in assisting the staff with providing a fun and interactive learning environment.
Tyotkas Elders Services
Volunteering at Tyotkas Elders Program allows the opportunity to honor our Elders by assisting in program services and activities. Volunteers help the staff in lunch prep and service, field trips and crafts.
Tribal Government
Tribal Government Volunteers are able to assist in the archives, in completion of special projects and in documentation of interviews regarding Kenaitze Indian Tribe culture, traditions and values.
Tribal Fisheries
The Tribal Fisheries welcomes volunteers who would like to share their knowledge by teaching traditional use, canning, storing and more. Volunteers in the summer have the opportunity to assist the staff with set up, maintenance of the fishery site, and harvesting during high harvest times.
Yaghanen Youth Program
Volunteers are vital in providing services and camps to community youth. There are many opportunities for volunteer assist at the Yaghanen Youth Program which include; day camps, overnight camps, Native Youth Olympics, daily programs and much more.
