SUMMARY:
Provide leadership to G&W’s railroads and regions to build teamwork and help the Engineering team to achieve its mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and lead Engineering training efforts for G&W’s US railroads. This includes classroom and field training
• Develop and maintain G&W standard documents including CWR/RWP-RMM/safety rules and technical standards
• Oversee G&W public projects insuring compliance with all applicable regulations, and insuring timely and cost efficient completion of projects
• Oversee G&W track testing program including rail flaw, track geometry and other testing including in-house and contracted services
• Oversee development upgrades and completion of electronic track inspection records at G&W’s railroads
• Represent G&W’s railroads and the ASLRRA in the FRA RSAC process developing quality relationships with FRA leadersip is an integral part of this process
• Participate in ASLRRA’s Engineering Committee representing G&W’s railroads and working to help the shortline and regional railroads as a whole
• Oversee the G&W utility crossing Engineering review process to resolve safety compliance with standards and meeting Real Estate departments requirements
• Provide field leadership to Regions and railroads to ensure compliance with standards and regulations and to promote the development of the current and future leaders of the Engineering team
• Work with electronic collection data systems from Geometry, Rail Flaw, DTN, and ATOM bridge inspection system to develop and provide capital planning direction to the regions
• Provide oversite and management of signal system manager for regional guidance and standards
• Other projects and duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Minium of 10 years of progressive leadership growth in railroad engineering preferred
• Demonstrated experience in Microsoft office including Word, Excel, Etc.
• History of diverse engineering and management oversight
• Demonstrated ability to develop subordinate personnel
• Must be willing to travel. 50% or more
• Ability to communicate effectively with regions and senior management teams, employees, customers, railroads, regulatory agency officials, and general public
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:
• Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university, with concentration in Civil Engineering or related field preferred.
• 10 years railroad work experience and/or training required; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the railroad industry.
• AutoCAD training and/or experience with relevant engineering software preferred; and computer literate on Microsoft Office Suite
