As the VP/GM for our Central IN and Northern OH sub-region, you will play a pivotal role in driving commercial excellence, production, and strategic growth within this vital segment of our Midwest operations. Your leadership will be crucial in shaping our production and marketing strategies, enabling us to meet our strategic goals and performance targets while prioritizing safety, health, and environmental standards.
In this dynamic position, you will enhance operational performance and foster a strong partnership between sales and operations. Based in either Sylvania, OH, or Indianapolis, IN, you will report directly to the Midwest Regional President, significantly impacting our regional success.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety and Compliance
- Champion a culture of safety excellence, ensuring safe performance and compliance with all standards.
- Strategic Leadership
- Provide vision, direction, and strategies to lead the business.
- Align business goals with the overall strategy of the Midwest Region and Heidelberg Materials organization, both short and long-term.
- Performance Management
- Develop, implement, and regularly measure performance results, taking corrective action as needed.
- Oversee capital and operating budgets, ensuring prudent cost and inventory management.
- Operational Excellence
- Develop overall production plans and area budgets; direct management to meet plans effectively.
- Maintain awareness of market conditions and adjust strategies to achieve results.
- Team Development
- Lead, guide, and develop the management team to achieve business goals and expand the customer base.
- Ensure effective talent management and acquisition strategies are in place for optimal staffing.
- Customer Relations and Market Engagement
- Build direct relationships with key customers and engage with industry and community organizations to enhance the company's reputation.
- Direct sales activities and marketing strategies while serving as a liaison between sales and operations.
- Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with centralized support functions to identify improvement opportunities and implement cost-saving measures.
- Participate in systems analysis and leverage technology for better customer experience and cost reductions.
Qualifications
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred.
- Experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the construction industry, preferably with exposure to multiple product lines including aggregates.
- 7-10 years in progressively responsible roles in sales, operations, or engineering, demonstrating excellence in safety.
- Leadership Skills
- Prior leadership experience required; experience in a union environment is desirable.
- Strong ability to motivate and guide teams to achieve results.
- Operational and Financial Acumen
- Solid understanding of both operations and sales functions.
- In-depth knowledge of financial aspects, including P&L statements, EVA, and budgeting processes.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to effectively interact with all organizational levels and cross-functional departments.
- Technical Skills
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and demonstrated negotiation skills.
