About the Job
The Vice President of Information Technology (VP IT) is responsible for leading the company’s IT strategy and will oversee
all aspects of the company’s information systems with a focus on driving innovation and achieving business objectives. This
position will provide the vision, strategy, direction and leadership in the development and implementation of all information
technology infrastructure and systems projects and initiatives, including but limited to operational productivity, data and systems
management, cyber security, and emerging technology. This position will also evaluate existing technologies for alignment and
cost. This position will serve on the Executive Management Team and may be required to travel to company-wide locations and
company events which may be held outside the state of California.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
• Reports to the President / Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
• This position will serve on the Executive Management Team
• This position has a total staff of 10 employees and 2 direct reports. The following positions will report to the VP IT:
o Director of Internet Operations
o IT Director
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Development and Operations
• Responsible for the overall strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of information
technology processes, systems, and resources.
• Overseeing planning and management for all business-critical technology processes and functions, including systems
design, software development, enterprise and network architecture, implementations and installations of hardware,
software, security, disaster recovery, etc.
o In charge of software development, project management and implementations of new and/or custom designed
technology solutions to interface with legacy and/or other systems.
• Leading and overseeing IT due diligence and integrations of newly acquired Hirsch location.
Data Integrity, Security and Compliance
• Ensure IT system operation adheres to applicable laws and regulations, contractual obligations, and established
security protocols. Monitors the security of data processed to ensure the integrity and reliability of computerized
information systems, communications systems, and office systems.
• Direct continued implementation and further development and execution of an enterprise-wide IT disaster recovery
and continuity plan.
Budgeting and Planning
• Aligning the IT strategic vision with the company while ensuring that IT investments and spend are aligned to business goals.
• Establish IT departmental goals, objectives, and operating procedures; directs continuous improvement of the IT team,
equipment, and procedures to maintain pace with technological progress, economic change, and business needs.
• Implementing both short-term and long-term IT business goals and initiatives that align and fit the current and future
organizational business strategy. Reviews and oversees formulation of project definitions showing project objectives,
information system requirements, and analytical and programming personnel requirements of proposed systems.
• Managing the annual technology financial operating and capital budget processes.
• Identify opportunities for the appropriate and cost-effective investment of financial resources in IT systems and
resources, including staffing, sourcing, purchasing, and in-house development.
o Determining and proposing necessary IT investments and expenditures to the IT Steering Committee on new
technology.
• Define and communicate IT plans, policies, and standards for the organization for acquiring, implementing, and
operating IT systems.
Technology Advocate and Educator
• Domain knowledge of infrastructure environments, pros/cons of different infrastructure systems and designs, in order
to properly oversee and manage the team responsible for the infrastructure needs of the organization.
• Partnering with senior and executive leadership to evaluate and standardize current and new business and wholesale
technologies, systems, and processes.
• Develop new programs and content to grow the company’s e-commerce presence.
• Keep current with trends and issues in the IT industry, including current and evolving technologies and prices. Advise,
counsel, and educate executives and management on their competitive or financial impact.
Leadership
• Evaluating and mentoring IT team members and working with the team on career development and training needs.
• Providing technical advice and knowledge to others within the IT discipline.
• Leading through effective and timely communication and coaching.
• Serving as a business partner and liaison to internal departments, as well as external teams, such as auditors,
vendors, customers, etc.
General
• Maintain business confidentiality relative to business interests and strategy, personnel, pricing, promotion, customer
lists, financial reports, systems, and methods of distribution.
• Work with all employees, customers and vendors in a way that models the Hirsch Values.
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and practices.
• Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be eighteen years of age
• Must pass a Pre-Employment Drug Test and Physical
• Must pass a Pre-Employment Background Check
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or other related fields
• Five+ years of experience in a senior level information technology position
• High proficiency using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and database programs
• Ability to perform quantitative analyses
• A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or other related fields
• Five+ years of experience managing or directing an IT operation in the distribution industry
• Professional certification in network/systems engineering and management, database analyst/administration,
information security, or project management
• Proven experience in IT infrastructure strategic planning and development, project management, and policy
development
• Proven experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis through to
implementation and day-to-day management
• Strong understanding of how technology and business are intertwined and aligned within an organization
• Strong business focus and track record driving business results through technology enablement
• Good understanding and technical knowledge of current network and operating systems, hardware, protocols, and
standards and the ability to work with a board range of software and operating systems
• Knowledge or experience in data warehouse functions
• Successful system conversion experience
• Ability to develop and strategize plans that cover a 12–24-month time span
