as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities:Data strategy and innovationDevelop Optum Life Science data strategy and ensuring it is in alignment with broader business strategyTranslate strategy to roadmap in partnership with key stakeholders (business, engineering, etc) ensuring it meets business goals, and targets and timelines are achievableLead teams to predict emerging life sciences market needs in RWD and RWE and to identify “white space” revenue growth opportunities for Optum LifesciencesDevelop a growth-oriented partnership and data acquisition engine, explore M&A opportunities, create a repeatable process for new data acquisition, lead due diligence and negotiate alliances Define, evaluate & prioritize investment cases (cost benefit analysis) to direct capital allocation for high ROI portfolio of products & initiativesDevelop clear roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, lead POC’s, etc
across business units to improve data assets and to deliver value Guide the future direction of data strategy and processes for Optum Life Sciences, including opportunity assessment, intake, variable definitions, database design and structure, and data integrity and qualityClient/Customer engagementProactively communicate and collaborate with internal and external customers to ensure information needs are formalized and understood and be conversant in the functional requirements for information needsProactively gather and analyze customer feedback to promote client-centric approach, identify new growth opportunities, enrich current product offerings based on quantifiable value propositionEngage and communicate data strategy both internally and externallyForge relationships with physicians, specialists, subject matter experts, engineering teams, data scientists, business leads, key opinion leaders across the organization to develop and/or adopt new frameworks and productsSupport the sales process through engagement on data strategy and educating clients on Optum’s RWD visionIdentify and build relationships with internal strategic business leaders to develop an ongoing process for understanding their business strategy and goals and tying those goals to existing and new data assetsSubject Matter ExpertiseAct as an expert on the latest technology trends & products in the space ofhealthcare data and analytics, machine learning and/or AIBe an expert on the company’s data ecosystems and data assetsBe a thought-partner for internal and external clients by bridging market trends to their specific challenges, dynamics, limitations & ambitionsIntegrate technology, business, and investment experience to assist the senior leadership in making pivotal strategic decisionsGeneral ManagementEmbrace project & team management aimed towards getting the job done
This will include working with data scientists, data engineers and business stakeholdersBe a champion for a data driven culture, lead a team of cross-functional analysts and support and train staff in data systems and reportingDesign and help manage Optum data strategy through data governance framework working cross-functionally across the organization with a wide range of stakeholders Define, implement, and monitor metrics and KPIs data strategy maturity and ensure ongoing strategic alignment with short and long-term business objectivesYou’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree 8+ years of relevant experience in either life sciences or provider spaceExperience in developing growth strategies for organization(s), particularly around new business lines Experience working in a team environment, as well as independently and autonomously Experience managing and leading teams Experience with solution focused problem solving and thinking through problems creatively Experience working in a complex matrix environment Experience working with clients in a consultative role - comfort engaging senior level people in back-and-forth conversation, ability to be convincing when necessary, and ability to develop solid relationships through each interactionWillingness to take risks and act decisively with regard to new opportunities Preferred Qualifications:MBA or other advanced degree Experience leading and executing strategyHealthcare experience, ideally with providers Product experience - creating and managing roadmaps, managing stakeholder relationshipsP&L, innovation or new venture ownership or management consulting experienceSubject matter expertise with Real World Data and Real World EvidenceCareers with Optum
