About the Job
Consults with and advises the COO regarding issues, events, pertinent changes in internal/external market, threats and opportunities in a timely and anticipatory manner and presents action plans for implementation/approval to ensure organization objectives are met.
Participates with leaders from the executive team and hospital representatives in developing the hospital's mission, strategic plans, scope of services, budgets, resource allocation, operation plans and policy; makes decisions and takes action consistent with the accepted standards and values of the hospital.
Identifies and articulates the vision and strategic direction for Regional One Health and collaborates on the implementation of strategies for achievement which includes:
- Creating a values-based work environment that supports the continued attainment of ROH’s mission.
- Facilitating shared vision for the organization.
- Facilitating communication to internal and external customers.
- Developing organizational strategic and operating plan, in conjunction with Executive Team and Medical Staff,
- Providing leadership in organizational initiatives.
- Prioritizing/allocating resources.
- Establishing relationships with the medical staff.
- Establishing relationships with other internal and external partners.
- Leading and participating in quality and process improvement initiatives.
- Developing/participating in development of new programs, services, initiatives and structures.
Provides the systematic functions and processes necessary for the delivery of quality, compassionate, culturally competent, cost-effective and efficient care and services in support of the mission statement of the organization, applicable clinical standards and regulatory agency requirements:
- Participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical programs and/or support services, assuring appropriate resources to address how health care needs of the patient population are assessed, met and evaluated.
- Provides for the identification, analysis, development and recommendation of operating policies, systems, programs, and standards.
- Assures that the service delivery model(s), clinical and staffing standards are consistent with current research and professional standards and with the mission, vision and values of the organization.
- Assures that clinical and support services are provided in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of The Joint Commission, State of TN and all other applicable regulatory bodies.
- Makes rounds and provides executive leadership presence to ensure planned or required care/services are being provided to patients and within applicable service units. Communicates with physicians, nursing and support staff, patients and family members regarding applicable clinical and support services.
- Participates in the development of an accurate and effective documentation system.
- Ensures adequate department cost center equipment, materials and supplies are available.
- Ensures staff participation in evaluating, selecting and integrating health care technology and information management systems that support hospital needs and the efficient utilization of resources.
- Develops and implements standards and measurements to meet customer requirements, produce quality outcomes, and continuously improve processes in a collaborative manner.
Evaluates individual and team performance; provides information, feedback, and support to enhance patient driven support services and programs through skilled and motivated staff to provide for professional development and to maximize contributions towards established goals and objectives:
- Promotes a work environment that facilitates and encourages engagement of the staff. Creating such an environment requires interdisciplinary collaboration and leadership by all hospital administrators.
- Promotes a practice environment that empowers staff to provide safe, effective, compassionate and efficient clinical and support services.
- Participates in the development and implementation of mechanisms for recognizing the expertise and performance of staff members.
Establishes system measurements and evaluates services by coordinating and monitoring the regulatory compliance at the State and Federal levels; as well as experience with preparing and participating in Joint Commission and hospital licensure surveys. Coordination of plans and programs are implemented with various Medical Directors, hospital resources, medical staff, nursing and other personnel:
- Identifies and establishes quality measures and standards required for continuous monitoring and improvement of clinical and support services.
- Reviews audits and participates in joint commission mock inspections.
- Meets or exceeds all Joint Commission standards for areas of responsibility.
- Assures Performance Improvement/Risk Management and safety functions are developed, evaluated, maintained and integrated to effect change, enhance delivery of services and problem solve within the organization.
- Assures that established reports are received and that specific findings, conclusions, improvement actions, recommendations and follow-up activities are reported.
- Reviews and analyzes patient and department surveys to promote satisfaction within Division.
- Responds to and provides on-site assistance with all local, state, and federal and accrediting institutions and assists with resolution of identified issues.
Advises the senior leadership and other groups to facilitate effective health care services/operations and by providing input about the implications of decisions and change on the quality of applicable clinical and support services.
- Participates in developing and implementing mechanisms for collaboration between staff members, nursing, physicians and other clinical practitioners.
- Serves on committees and cross-organizational teams to integrate organizational objectives. Represents Division as an active participant in Executive Committees, Patient Safety, Value Analysis, etc.
Maintains appropriate relationships and communication with others to ensure that patient care and support service objectives are met.
Participate in all aspects of hospital budget planning and review. Develops, monitors, and maintains operating, personnel and capital budgets based on appropriate projections, assumptions and recommendations in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Plans, develops and markets current and new services and programs to enhance the long-term viability and competitive advantage of the organization to promote quality clinical/support services and maintain financial stability.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or a closely related area Required
- Minimum 7 years experience of progressive senior level healthcare administration experience in an acute care hospital with documented achievements and leadership responsibilities Required
- At least 1 year experience Experience in a union environment Preferred
