What you will be doing:- Direct the US underwriting strategy, process, planning, reporting, forecasting, business development, and innovation for the Casualty insurance book of business.
- Underwrite, price, and negotiate risks in a manner that is consistent with Relm's risk appetite to ensure profitability, retention, and written premium goals are achieved.
- Provide a professional layer of leadership, mentorship, and management to the US Casualty underwriting team, fostering a high-performance culture, and promoting continued growth, training, and development of junior underwriting and administrative staff.
- Negotiate, prepare, and draft policy and endorsement wording.
- Create and develop relationships with brokers and policyholders to establish new distribution relationships and sales channels.
- Attend and occasionally present at industry conferences, as needed and as opportunities arise.
- Collaborate with colleagues to achieve company goals and drive cross-sell opportunities.
- Assist with strategic underwriting planning by developing and maintaining suitable management information to effectively evaluate the portfolio.
- Maintain compliance with all internal and external underwriting and regulatory guidelines, standards, and legal requirements.
- Engage in ad-hoc projects and tasks as assigned to contribute to the continuous improvement and growth of Relm.
Experience you will need:- Minimum of 8 years of US Casualty insurance underwriting and/or broking experience.
- A bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in business, finance, insurance, actuarial science, computer science, or a related discipline.
- Robust relationships with US wholesale and retail brokers.
- Perceived as a thought leader within the US Casualty insurance market.
- Experience with policy and endorsement wording negotiation, preparation, and drafting.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Superb leadership qualities with the capability to build camaraderie in a global team.
- Creative problem-solver with strong critical thinking skills, an ethical approach to getting things done, and an ability to apply different perspectives across the spectrum.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
- A confident communicator who can clearly and authentically convey a written and verbal message, skillfully persuade, and craft a constructive argument.
- Advanced skills across all Microsoft Office applications (familiarity with Mac OS is a plus).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort with leading client and broker meetings.
- Exceptional attention to detail and work ethic, setting an example for others.
- Ability to work outside of core hours and travel overseas, as required.
