What you’ll be doing::Oversee national strategy development and execution of underwriting, growth, and profitability for the Religious Markets Center of Excellence (COE). Drives clear strategic direction, manages risk selection, portfolio performance and optimizes relationships with direct sales and external distribution channels. Provides underwriting direction, specialized strategies, and oversight for the execution of long and short-term underwriting strategies that advance organizational objectives.
On any given day, you’ll::
- Demonstrate mastery of industry strategy including underwriting, pricing, operations, finance, and product development.
- Lead with strategic and organizational agility and manage with a vision and purpose.
- Develop and execute a business plan in collaboration with senior management to attain profitable growth in line with the company’s overall strategy.
- Handle the referral process for this profit center, managing risks within authority and referring risks outside of authority to senior management as appropriate.
- Drive the development of the business plan and monitor results while adjusting strategies and tactics to maximize profit and balanced growth.
- Maintain appropriate specialization and awareness of industry trends by participating in specialized trade forums, industry boards or bureaus to build technical expertise and business acumen.
- Develop and implement strategic long and short-range plans to drive profitable business opportunities within the COE. Lead key initiatives to address business strategy and profitability objectives.
- Ensure the COE develops and maintains successful relationships with top commercial agents and brokers by providing stewardship with service partners.
- Evaluate underwriting performance of portfolio mix based on financial analysis including rate, reserve adequacy, operational, planning and product reviews.
- Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with corporate underwriting to establish underwriting guidelines and eligibility rules that promote long‑term profitability.

Here’s what we expect:
- Minimum of 15+ years of experience in Property and Casualty Underwriting.
- Four-year college degree required. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8+ years leading a team.
- License/Certification/Designation: CPCU, ARM or other industry designations preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of underwriting products and industry trends.
- Ability to apply deep crtical thinking in portfolio management optimization.
- Excellent problem solving/decision making skills with the ability to influence others.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills to maintain effective communications, both internally and in the marketplace.
- Ability to self-manage, organize, and prioritize work with limited direction.
- Experience in collaborating with other business units such as actuary, claims, distribution, product, risk control and operations to drive profitable growth.
- Demonstrated ability to identify key insights by connecting disparate information.
- Forward thinker with an entrepreneurial Mindset.
- Able to adapt in fast paced environment.
- Advanced communication skills, including technical knowledge in both written and verbal formats, across media, digital, and traditional channels.
- Demonstrated results-oriented leadership focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Professional Office Environment
Hybrid – Location in Headquarters (Merrill), Madison or Milwaukee. If working from Madison or Milwaukee, frequent visibility in Merrill is required.
Periodic travel to office locations and broker meetings will be expected.
