About This Opportunity
In this position you will be working as a night shift operator at the Joint Water Commission Water Treatment Plant (JWC). The Joint Water Commission consists of four partners, City of Hillsboro, City of Beaverton, City of Forest Grove, and Tualatin Valley Water District. An Operator is responsible for ensuring the Water Plant continues to meet the supply requirements of the JWC partners and produces safe clean potable water. The plant is located in Forest Grove, Oregon. The JWC is a conventional Water Treatment Plant rated at 85 million gallons a day that treats drinking water for 450,000 people within Washington County. The plant has a class 4 rating by the Oregon Health Authority. This position requires a water treatment operator certification from the Oregon Health Authority.
Pay level is dependent on education and experience. Please see Training and Experience section below for requirements. The following salary ranges reflect annual earnings based on a 40-hour work week. Employees on night shift schedules will receive a 5% pay differential in addition to base bay.

$ 71,198 - $ 93,692
Treatment Level 3 = Water Plant Operator III
$ 74,046 - $ 97,440

The candidate will work night shift and work a 7/80 schedule with 7 days on, 7 days off. Water / Wastewater technology degree is preferred, but not required. Ideal candidate will be able to work well and get along with others. This includes taking direction from the shift partner and other WTP staff.
Examples of Essential Work
A Water Treatment Plant Operator provides technical, operational and maintenance services related to water treatment plant operations, instrumentation, and service delivery. In this position, you will conduct water treatment activities as licensed; ensure operation of water plant instrumentation; conduct water analyses; maintain records; and investigate and resolve system deficiencies and complaints. Level 3 and Level 4 operators may monitor the completion of work.
- Operates and maintains water treatment plants and related equipment to provide safe and adequate water supply; monitors raw, intermediate, finished and distribution water conditions; adjusts water treatment processes and chemicals.
- Produces and monitors finished water quality to ensure safe water supply that is compliant with established standards and laws; monitors, maintains and calibrates various instruments; performs water laboratory testing and reviews results.
- Utilizes plant industrial control system to maintain complete and accurate records in accordance with procedures and retention schedules.
- Monitors and regulates water flows based on supply needs; coordinates water releases; monitors system volumes and pressures; monitors and maintains filling, pumping and distribution systems.
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and instruments to ensure efficient operations and accurate readings; monitors security systems at various facilities.
- Addresses questions, concerns, and complaints from the general public; provides requested information; investigates and takes appropriate measures to resolve issues.
- Manage records and information in any format, in accordance with applicable statutes, regulations and City policy, guidance and records retention schedule.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
- Level 3 and Level 4 Operators perform all the duties listed above and may also lead and support assigned staff.

Associates degree in chemistry, biology, water, wastewater technology, or related field and Oregon Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Level 4 positions also require some lead worker experience.
