ABOUT THE POSITION
Senior Water Resources Engineer | Hybrid | Open to any New England office location
VHB’s Water Resources group is growing across New England, and we're looking for a Senior Engineer to join its dynamic team of Water Resource and Water Quality specialists. In this position you will assist our clients with developing strategic, cost-effective, and forward-thinking solutions to their water resource, ecological restoration, transportation, and environmental challenges. You will have an opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, ranging from site to watershed scale. Projects may include stormwater designs, bridge hydraulics and scour, stream restorations, flood mitigation and management, and coastal resiliency.
Responsibilities
- Identify both short-term deadlines, deliverables, and tasks as well as long-term client goals
- Track budgets, schedules, staff availability, and ensure internal and external intermediate and final deadlines are met
- Assist with identifying and pursuing new clients and leverage existing relationships to continue to provide valuable services to VHB's existing clients
- Assist clients with stormwater regulatory compliance and initiatives to develop comprehensive approaches that are efficient and sustainable
- Conduct, or lead staff who are conducting, a wide array of water resources related studies and analysis
- Support related water resources work such as integrated water resources planning, resiliency planning, watershed management and stormwater control planning, stormwater master planning, and NPDES permitting-related tasks
- Prepare reports for stormwater analyses and designs
- Work within a team of professionals in developing site civil engineering plans and specifications for a multitude of environmental, land development, transportation, and water resources projects
Skills & Abilities
- Superior project management skills on water resource projects
- Familiarity with stormwater management design, Low Impact Development/green infrastructure design, floodplain management, storm sewer design, grading, and site design
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Team-oriented with strong capability to motivate others
- Highly motivated self-starter
- Superior ability to collaboratively problem solve with stakeholders, clients, and teammates
- Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling programs
- Understanding of local, state, and federal permitting
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil/environmental/water resource engineering or related discipline, master’s degree a plus
- P.E. licensure expected or ability to obtain within 6 months
- 5-8 years of stormwater, water quality, and/or regulatory experience, including project management experience
- 8-11 years of experience preferred
- Experience supervising or mentoring desired
- AutoCAD, and GIS experience strongly desired
