Dewberry is currently seeking a Water/Wastewater Senior Construction Manager with background and experience in water and wastewater related infrastructure, to include pump stations, pressure pipeline, gravity pipeline, and treatment plants. The position will be based in Fairfax, VA, with projects geographically based in the Northern Virginia area.
The Senior Construction Management position will be responsible for the management of water and wastewater project and design construction oversight in Northern Virginia. The Sr. CM will provide technical leadership for complex or unique assignments and will plan, organize, and supervise construction management activities for a project of significant size and complexity. This position will review scope, budget, and schedule, while supervising all staff necessary to complete assignments. Additional tasks include track/report on project progress, monitor schedules, manage budgets, ensure quality, and perform contract administration and project management.

Responsibilities:- Manage preconstruction services including procurement and bidding, design management, contract management, and document management.
- Implement, manage, and oversee all quality assurance and quality control programs on assigned projects.
- Provide leadership on assigned projects and provide support as needed to successfully complete projects according to scope of services with a value-added approach.
- Provide owner’s representative, program management and project management services to clients
- Lead/attend regular project progress meetings and assist staff throughout project delivery.
- Track and control construction risk, schedules, and associated costs to achieve completion of projects within time and budget allocated.
- Assist and/or manage the creation of proposals, business marketing pieces, and products that respond to requests for proposals or solicit new clientele.
- For assigned projects, ensure timely invoicing and accurate reporting of project costs; maintain project budgets with assistance from assigned staff.
- Perform related work as required or other duties as assigned. Considerable knowledge of engineering and construction principles related to water and wastewater facilities and pipelines. Ability to foster teamwork, lead, develop professional relationships, mentor, and train. Ability to compile engineering data and statistics; evaluate and generate reports. Ability to ensure compliance with and follow standard safety practices and procedures common to construction work. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, clients, and the public. Ability to prepare budgets, and proposals and manage contracts and project costs.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or Equivalent.
- Possessing or ability to obtain a PE license in the State of VA or CCM is preferred.
- 20+ years of increasingly responsible experience in Construction Management and Project Administration with and emphasis in the following areas:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to communicate with clients and the public and respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and clients.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- Associates degree in Construction Management or related field is preferred, but not required.
- At least 15+ years of progressively responsible related experience.
- Relevant certifications for water- and wastewater-related construction management and inspection.
- Ability to provide technical knowledge, read and interpret water and wastewater infrastructure construction drawings and contract specifications; apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustments; maintain detailed records; supervise and monitor required materials testing; and communicate effectively with owner and contractor personnel.
- Experience with alternative delivery methods is desired, including CMAR, DB, and DBB.
- Knowledge of current state and federal environmental laws and policies related to design and construction.
- Working skills in operating computer equipment and field inspection equipment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
