Summary:
The purpose of this job within the organization is to perform welding and other duties as assigned.
This job works under close supervision according to set procedures.
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Work Hours:
This position will be expected to work a schedule established by the Department Head. Typical hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. It is also expected this position will work other hours including nights, weekends and/or holidays as necessary or requested in order to fulfill the City's vision and/or to accomplish departmental goals. Mandatory overtime may be required during certain occasions including, but not limited to times of snow/ice removal.

Essential Duties: Include, but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Welds and repairs equipment; performs fabrication on steel and sheet metal as needed
Cuts workpiece, using powered saws, torches or hand shears.
Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
Examines workpieces for defects and measures workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
Recognizes, sets up, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
Additional Duties:
Drives salt truck and/or dump truck as necessary and required.
Serves as and fills in for varius Street Department positions including Heavy Equiptment Operator.
Education/Experience:
Requires one year in welding or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Welding Certification
Class A Commercial Driver's License
